I am 38 and I've never thought much of manga or anime before. However, I recently happened onto Death Note, and got so powerfully sucked in by the entire franchise. Curious about the genre, I moved on to Hikaru no Go and I think I love it even more than Death Note. These two series have possessed me beyond anything I could have guessed, and from inside the muck of new fangirlism I wonder - did I just happen onto the two most gripping and possessing stories of all time, or is there some mysterious qualities about the genre that possess your soul and don't let go? Is my passion for it real or fleeting? I don't know. Some day when I am ready I'll move on to another story or two and maybe one day I'll know.
