What should you expect from CDLB? A fun slice of life anime with a good story about the strengthening bonds of friendship through travel and experiences. It also has some action, but nothing too spectacular in that department. Basically a show about two girls on a road trip and a little spice thrown in from the assorted characters following them.
Nadie is a bounty hunter charged with protecting a mysterious girl named Ellis. Ellis is a girl with strange powers that is suffering from amnesia. Together they travel to Winay Marka to uncover the mysteries surrounding Ellis' past.
Ok, so there is some decent character development in the show, and it's cool seeing Ellis and Nadie grow closer each episode. The story development is strongly lacking however. The motivations of several of the characters in the show never gets an adequate explanation. Throughout the show they're traveling to a place called Winay Marka but they have no idea why except that it might supposedly have some answers about Ellis. If you're looking for a show with a deep, interesting storyline then don't bother with this show because there really isn't much as far as the overall storyline goes. This show does have its points, though. Each episode is basically about the adventures Nadie and Ellis get into on their journey. Each adventure is fun and unique and they meet lots of intereting people on the way. Thus the show is fairly episodic in format so if that doesn't bother you then this show is good simple entertainment.
CDLB has some pretty good animation, attractive characters and halfway decent action in the form of gunfights. There's nothing that really stands out about the animation, however. As long as you're not expecting something that will blow your mind though you won't be disappointed by this show.
With a decent opening and closing theme song and good voice acting, CDLB gets above average sound ratings, but not too far above average. Nadie's english voice actor Trina Nishimura does an exceptionally good job in particular.
This show has a lot of fun and interesting characters. The downside to these characters is that other than the love obsessed L.A. most of the characters don't have clear motivations as to why they do what they do. Despite not having a clear reason for their actions this show still has a good cast and Nadie and Ellis are enjoyable leads.
Ricardo is another interesting bounty hunter and his little sidekick Lirio is a cute and amusing little girl. L.A. is a young man who has a similar background as Ellis and is obsessed with her. Blue Eyes is an agent for a secret organization that is keeping track of Ellis' progress. Rosenburg is a man with his own mysterious agenda, throughout the show whatever his agenda is, it's never really made clear and there are a lot of times that he's shown doing things that have no relevance with the rest of the show.
With none of the characters having clear long-term goals this show ends up becoming nothing more than a show about Nadie and Ellis' roadtrip. Still, it's an entertaining road trip to watch with several interesting side stories along the way. It also has a fun cast of characters that are enjoyable to watch. I'd recommend this show if you're looking for something light and entertaining but not too serious.
