Martian Successor Nadesico: Prince Of Darkness

Jan 14, 2010

Before reading any further, I'm going to let any readers out there know that this movie is based almost entirely on the TV series and, if you haven't seen the TV series or at least read my review of it, go do so now. I say "almost" entirely because the movie is not a direct sequel of the series. A Sega Saturn game entitled "Martian Successor Nadesico: The Blank of 3 Years" that takes place three years after the series is its direct sequel while the movie takes place... See full review

Martian Successor Nadesico

Jan 14, 2010

This was one of those series that I had heard a lot of people talk about, that has a couple of very popular characters in anime as a whole, and one that many people had nothing but good things to say... yet I never had any idea what it actually was or was about until I finally watched it. It was both what I was expecting but not what I was expecting at the same time. STORY AD 21XX. War was beginning. But before that happened mankind had developed technology to allow humans to colonize the earth's moon as well as Mars. The series begins with the main character, Akito Tenkawa, a Martian-born... Rune Soldier

Jan 14, 2010

Watching any fantasy genre in anime form is always a unique experience simply because it never follows the same rules as one would expect when watching something produced in a Western nation. Oftentimes the heroes are completely inept at what they do or, in the case of a certain sorceress who shall remain nameless, often seem more diabolically evil than the villain. Rune Soldier features an interesting mix of elements found in both hemispheres and fits the genre's standards pretty well while breaking the mold in a few places at the same time. STORY The story focuses on a group of adventurers... See full review

Fruits Basket

Jan 14, 2010

Over the years people have told me that there are two series that are "must see" that involve people transforming into animals via some unusual means: Ranma 1/2 and Fruits Basket. I first got into the former title years ago, had the opportunity to read the entire run of the manga, and even wrote several fanfics that inspired original characters who I still use today. Fruits Basket didn't come until this past year when I bought vol. 1 of the manga from a friend and got the anime series for Christmas (which didn't get watched until this past week). In all honesty, I had thought that there... See full review

Excel Saga

Jan 14, 2010

This is one series that I'd been wanting to see ever since first encountering it on some music videos during my college years. Once I had the money to buy it... I found out the DVD collection was out of print. Fortunately, a brief search around various online stores rectified that problem and, in a matter of weeks, I finally had a copy in my hands. Don't bother to ask how long ago that was since I only got around to finally watching over the course of the past week. The question now is, was it worth it? STORY There was a story? Fortunately the answer to this is yes (sort of). The... See full review

K-On!

Jan 14, 2010

The unique thing about any "Slice of life" series is the fact that they all seem to be enjoyable despite the lack of any major groundbreaking or epic plot that results in saving the world or universe. The reason they work is because ordinary people can relate to similar events in their own lives. K-ON! is a series that simply follows the lives of four, then five, high school girls who form their school's light music club. Here's the breakdown: STORY The story begins with the primary protagonist, Yui Hirasawa, rushing to her first day of high school in fear of running late. After... See full review
