Rin ~Daughters of Mnemosne~

I hate reading long plot summaries, so I'll be concise. This anime sort of has this old detective drama feel to it, mixed with bouts of supernatural gore-porn. That being said, and as a female, I really liked it. In a nutshell, the title character is immortal, or close to it. She tries to live a normalish life being a private detective, but lots of severe violence and lesbian sex tends to ensue. She runs into many people wanting to kill her, other immortals like her, and the plot explores the limits and reasoning behind her immortality. What I really liked, was how six episodes spanned many generations, and each episode had years gapped between them, starting off in the 90s, and ending sometime after the year 2050. It's really fascinating to follow different character descendents, as well as to see technology progress throughout the series, and the story gradually takes on heavy sci-fi elements midway through.

I should take a section just to comment about the animation and music-- both are beautful, the animation always vibrant and nice to look at. The soundtrack though especially stayed with me~ everything from the jazzy detective-esque background track, to a pretty and sad harp melody found late in the series.

I always like strong heroines, and I must say that Rin is about as badass as they come. I don't really have anything negative to say about the series, other than the number of times a pair of boobs are thrown in to make sure you're paying attention, but that's anime oftentimes, really. If you can stomach some disturbing content, and generally enjoy violent anime, I would recommend investing time into watching this short series.

~Watched in Japanese.
