I have watched it but don't really recommend. It only covers maybe the first 5 volumes or so of the manga but doesn't really have the same feel I got while reading it. Blade of the Immortal also doesn't neccessarly become great until the Kaga arc, which is the second part of the story, and is not part of the anime. It introduces one the most despicable but great villians I've come across in manga. The first arc is good with some pretty cool fights and encounters but the anime doesn't really do it justice. I recommend the manga, The art also gets really great probably around chapter 50-60ish and some of the best showdowns are later in the series that the anime doesn't cover.

Well it's not so much that Vagabond and Blade of the Immortal are so similar. Blade of the Immortal follows an Immortal swordsman and a young girl who hires him to eliminate a swordschool responsible for the death of her family. While Vagabond follows a man just wanting to make a name for himself. I just excpected them to be similar seeing as I was debating what to read between the two, I ended up choosing Blade ofthe Immortal and considered it one of my favorites by time the story entered its second stage. After finishing it, I was still in the mood for more samurai styled action and decided I'd read Vagabond as well. Now I can agree Vagabond gets great but it took me awhile to get into it, I honestly didn't think much of it until the introduction of Sasaki Kojiro. Btw he's my favorite of the series as well lol. Manji of Blade of the Immortal does have a similar feat to Musashi's undefeated record, as prior to his Immortality he defeated 100 men over the course of a few years maybe. I understand why that would give someone into MMA inspiration. I mean Musashi is a beast, especially the night he took on the entire Yoshioka. I just thought Blade of the Immortal to be a much faster paced story with better and more interesting fights. I guess I'm just a fan of the unstoppable zombie like characters more than I thought lol.

GodzillaGus says...  happy (belated) holidays to you too. sorry for the late response. been on vacation and taking a break from anime. hope all is well.

No worries for late response, it's not late - I'm glad to hear from you again! *smile*  I hope you have been enjoying your vacation and have done some fun things!  That's what a vacation is for!  But taking a break from anime?  That's almost sacrilege! hahaha  Hopefully, the break won't be too long, and that your time away enhances your next anime experience so much that you really enjoy it when you start back watching it again!
