Re: my "Watching"numbers: It's so hard to find the time to keep up with everything, but I am lucky to belong to some anime clubs where we get to start (and follow up on) lots of different shows.I am envious of your completed "Watched" numbers!
About Japanese: it both is and isn't as hard as they say. The rules governing the language are pretty straightforward and not a lot of rule exceptions ... but ...
I like to say that the Japanese are aliens, because they just do not think like us in the US. Besides having a backwards sentence structure (subject-object-verb vs. our subject-verb-object order), they utilize things we don't (like particles, and levels of politeness and hierarchy) and do not use things we do (like plurals and subject pronouns).
And then there is the reading factor: they have three different syllabaries (i.e., three different alphabets) - hiragana, katakana, and kanji.
Taken overall, because it is just sooooo different from English and the romance languages I have also studied, I would say that, Yes, it is as hard to learn as you've heard. - Sianeka
