Itazura na Kiss
Plot: "Kotoko Aihara has always been in love with Naoke Irie; he’s tall, handsome, and rumored to be the most intelligent student in Japan – who wouldn’t be? Only one thing stands in the way of a relationship with Irie: Kotoko is ditzy and is at the bottom set of her school, and Irie-kun hates nothing more than ditzy, stupid girls. When disaster strikes and Kotoko is forced to move in with Irie-kun’s family, she suddenly sees her chance to bridge the gap. After all, even cool, super-intelligent guys must have a soft spot, right?" (site synopsis)
Story: To begin with, this is a very sweet romantic comedy show with a few melodrama moments. I came across this show by chance, since i've been a big fan of another show that had deep romantic meanings like Nana, i followed through a list of recomendations from a friend and the name of this show sounded interesting so i gave it a shot not knowing that i was in for a feast of delightment. Somehow this show kinda represents the wish that all people have, to fulfill in both career and in personal issues in other words to have a job that deserves respect and also a family. The story of this anime is centered on a school girl named Aihara Kotoko. When she entered in high school she fell in love with a handsome and probably one of the most intelligent student in Japan, Irie Naoki during the entrance ceremony when he kept his speech. Although between Irie and Kotoko stands a wall that cannot be broken so easily. Irie hates ditzy, careless, stupid girls and Kotoko fills in that category extremely well, mainly because she is part of the F class, a class where the studying performances are extremely low and not only that, she is incapable of doing something good from top to bottom. One day she wrote a love letter to Irie but when she wanted to give it to him he rejects it immediately without second thoughts (gosh i so hate that pesky, arrogant dude!). Anyway after her house colapsed Kotoko and her father were invited to stay with Irie's family. At the begining Kotoko didn't have an idea who could be the family that were hosting them but when they came in front of their house and saw the pannel with the name of family incripted on it she quickly realised with she will spend her days from now on. As the story develops this two "lovers" LOL give "birth" to deep emotional feelings. Irie read the love letter that Kotoko writted for him without her permission and from here on Irie starts to develop feelings towards Kotoko (being cool and intelligent doesnt mean you dont have a weak spot so in this case it prove to be right). This anime is like a damn soap opera. Its funny at some points. romantic even dramatic what i like the most is that it combines them in a succesful way. Also this anime has a cool ending, predictable one of course, but nice one. Still this anime is not without flaw. At the begining this anime gives the impression of a pointless comedy and i was about to drop it. Luckily the plot changed near the middle and i started to get some interest in it. Sometimes its nice to see two extremely different people getting toghether and falling in love with eachother, even though in real life people spend a lot of time finding their second-half and expecting him/her to have similar tastes, characteristics and personality. This show proves that even two totaly different people can get along and more of it, can fall in love.
Animation and Sound: The animation style is very well chosen and fits this anime to the fullest. I realy liked the character designs of Kotoko (especialy) and of Irie which fits their personalities to the fullest. The design of the secondary characters werent that bad also but some of them coulda been improved especialy Kotoko's class mates. Well in terms of sound this anime isnt that bad but not so good also. The opening song and the ending song are enjoyable but in my opinion they dont suit the anime environment to the fullest. What compensates its the background sounds which were pretty good and decent.
Characters: Related to characters this anime is kinda complicated. Even though the personality of Irie and Kotoko are very well defined and underlined they are as cliche as hell. A bumblind idiot who looks like she doesnt have any worries and a dude who seems that he hasnt experienced any emotional feelings since he was born.We can also speak about a character development here but it doesnt exceed at this chapter. Too few characters are revealed as the story develops. One thing i have to say about the side characters as well, is that even though they play their part succesfuly in this anime, when it comes to the real romance or the real couple thing, they kinda become useless.
Overall: As an overall this anime is nice, enjoyable, funny, dramatic at some points but worths to watch. Its a classic type of shoujo/romance anime but kinda unique in its own way. I realy cant find a suitable similarity with this anime though but however if you seen Lovely Complex or Special A this anime is also highly recommended. I rated it abit more than normal because i truly enjoyed this anime.
