YOU MIGHT LIKE

Macross Plus

Smaller, tighter, better. Sometimes when you dice off the fat of a 50+ episode series, and boil it down to the best elements, you are left with mini-masterpieces in larger scale franchises. basically, these are both from mighty franchises and are small independent stories set in those worlds. Both of these have killer soundtracks. Plus uses everything from pulsating pop, to jazz to orchasration from none other than Yoko Kanno, but did you like that awesome OST in Macross Plus? well, Thunderbolt just kills it with Jazz, ranging from fast and loose to mornful and solomn.  Don't let Plus' age fool you, The animation in both of these titles is fantastic, and the character designs in both are able to stand up.  If you liked one, I'd try the other. Do you need to have seen the grand franchise before seeing these?  Not totally. I'd Say Plus can stand on it's own, Thunderbolt you just need to know that The federation and Zeon are at war and Zeon is scared of a Gundam from previous knowledge.

Amending a review for a show you originally thought was a mediocre mess only to be surprised by a solid second act, is very rare. In fact, I am not sure it has happened to me yet. Ah Macross... You big beautiful mix of warfare and dancy pop numbers. Shredded mecha roar by with explosions...

How do you easily grab my interest away from cookie cutter titles? Well, it is not hard. Any title that puts a lumbering, big lipped, buzz cut guy slapped right on the front title promo picture tells me that this title might be worth a look. Quantifying this anime leaves me hard...
