Reverse Harems Why I Like Them

13 JAN
2011

Well to be honest the first series I saw in this type was Fruits  Basket and it struck me right away how it seemed to almost be making fun of all those series I saw with a single male character that all the female characters seemed so madly in love with. More so Fruits Basket went a bit farther to have one of the male characters, Yuki (who just happened to be the main characters favorite) be the type of guy all the girls want. So then after that series ended I got into Ouran High School Host Club, which actually does make blatant fun of the whole Harem gene. This was a turning point for me and I realized here was a gene of Anime whose target audience seems to be me. So girls and woman who like animation, but find the whole throng of girls all clammering for the same guy bit, you should give Reverse Harem animes a try, it's fun and only slightly addictive. Need more reasons??

The female lead is usually a very strong willed yet, painfully human girl who overcomes great odds to find someone who will love her for who she truely is.

All the male characters are quirky, and yet very attractive...lovely eyes, hair and slender yet male build.

There is always at least one hotheaded female character you will love to hate, who might actually become friends with the lead in the end.

Scenes are rarely vular although they do sometime have main character getting painfully close to kissing one of the male characters.

There is also some form of comic relief often in the form of a close companion, one of the male characters or even the lead herself.

The main male interest is well tested before he is able to prove himself to the main character thereby removing all doubt.

Often the fights in these series are humorous rather than violent, and when is violence the main character always comes out on top or is saved just in time.

Oh and um, there is often an honest role reverse in them where she rushes in to save the guy instead of needing to be helped.
