Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai!

Sep 28, 2014

I just recently finished re-watching Chuunibyou Demo KOI ga Shitai!, and felt compelled to write a very favourable review. Chuunibyou is an anime that attempts to open a lot of registers at once and how well they combine is the truest grade meter for a show that is both a romantic comedy and a drama series, with some crazy action scenes thrown in the mix. Playing in and around high school, that tried and tested scenery of most all Japanese productions, the cast is made up of ex-fantsy world dweller Yuuta, his currently diseased neighbour girl Rikka and the Magic hobby club they draw around themselves. A... See full review

Yuri Seijin Naoko-san (2012)

Oct 14, 2013

Review for the original short (2009 or so) here: http://www.anime-planet.com/users/ForTheLoveOfLoli/reviews/12384 This near half-hour, what, sequel? makes no more sense than the original 6 minute short. The animation, comedy, voice acting and characters, let alone the plot, do not improve. In fact they have deteriorated further. To this we can add that it simply becomes boring within ten minutes - about a third of the time through. I watched animes before that made me want to demand my lost time back, or maybe kill a random person on the street out of sheer frustration. After watching this 2012... See full review

Yuri Seijin Naoko-san

Oct 14, 2013

This is a piece of pig's dung of an anime short so let me be equally short in reviewing it. We see a lesbian lolicon alien on Earth at work catching a molester. The comedy, if you'd call it that, is about as funny as Benny Hill.  the animation looks like it was made in the early 90s, the characters are utterly undefined or just preposterous in an unfunny manner, and the writers didn't even bother to explain the how and the why. Even the voice actors realised it was shit, because you can't exactly say they are giving it their all. The same goes for the half-hour OVA. I gave Ryofuko-chan a 1/10, but... See full review

Kurenai

Oct 14, 2013

(What a relief not to be reviewing another ecchi and/or moe anime this time. Writing a review for ecchi and moe comedies is relatively simple because they are rather shallow and basically all alike, so they are easy to describe, to compare and to judge. That's also what makes it rather tiresome. And that while I have seen so many more serious animes that are really much better, and worthy of my penmanship! So, I present to you my review for...) KURENAI. I'm sorry to the vinegar-pissing (Dutch expression for people who make it a point to b1tch about everything) review purists that insist on giving low... See full review

Upotte!!

Oct 13, 2013

UPOTTE!! Okay, anime exists in a world quite independent and detached from worldly logic. So to find an action/comedie/moe story about a girl school in which all the pupils and teachers (minus one) are assault rifles, that shouldn't surp- ...wait, what?? STORY Yes. The girls are assault rifles. Each girl is in actuality one of the many types of rifles used by armies worldwide. And they, uh, use themselves. Even though they are (somehow) in training to be used by humans. You'd think humans should be in training to use them, but no, this is anime, so this is how it works. Apparently. If only the... Manabi Straight!

Oct 12, 2013

STORY Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight! is a simple moe comedy story about an all-female Student Council set to motivate and inspire the fellow students. There really isn't anything special to it, but somehow, it all adds up to a very, very fine anime experience. Let me explain. The plot deals with a future in which high school is no longer a requirement; most teens just start working for a living. This is somehow the result of a decline in birthrate, and an aging population. This is not explained much further and, to be honest, it does not at all matter to the rest of the story. It is just to explain why... See full review

Lotte no Omocha!

Oct 5, 2013

I just spent an hour writing a long review about why I give a 10/10 to an anime with as many blatant shortcomings as Lotte no Omocha! I pressed the wrong button and had to start all over again, so I'll keep it short and irritated. Alright. Lotte no Omocha!! Has a paper-thin, bizarre, decidedly stupid story, about why our ten year old main character Lotte needs to ingest a great amount of semen, or die. It's just a frame to hang heavy-handed loli ecchi from, really - and that's what we get. The humour is crude and below the belt. The art is ok but never great. The characters remain mostly very shallow... See full review

Strike Witches TV 2

Sep 28, 2013

I had already written a review for the first season of Strike Witches. You can find it here: http://www.anime-planet.com/users/ForTheLoveOfLoli/reviews/12186 In reviewing Strike Witches 2, I will use what I have already stated in the review for the first season, as a starting point. This is because, honest to God, nothing about Strike Witches 2 has changed significantly from the original. I will trust you have seen season 1 if you're going to watch this. This will allow me to keep the review quite to the... See full review

Ryofuko-chan

Sep 17, 2013

I can be fairly short judging this anime. It's tripe. There is no story, no defined characters, let alone any development, and the ecchi is far-fetched and too obvious. The whole shebang is unattractively animated to begin with. The humor is absurd, but like the ecchi: too far-fetched. It doesn't hit home like for instance in Azumanga Daioh, which is similarly absurd, however different - in a good sense. This just leaves one with a feeling of "what the flying fuck did I just watch, and I wish it had been something different."

Strike Witches TV

Sep 15, 2013

Okay! Strike Witches, season 1. I enjoyed it, but it was far from perfect. Let's recap. THE STORY. The plot is a bit thin, but pretty nice. I like how it blends history with fiction, in order to make Witches from all different factions from the WWII fight together. An American, two Japanese, two Germans, a Frenchwoman, a Brit, Italian, Russian, Finnish, and one I'm not all sure of. At the beginning the story is very straightforward, but in the last two or three episodes thankfully there was some attempt at a plot twist that was pretty welcome, for the lack of progression at first. However, unfortunately... See full review
