Hello! I'm a 13 year old girl who just this summer became addicted to anime. My first anime series to finish was Digimon Adventure. My 10th was Special A. My 50th was Ookiku Fuributte.
My story? Around the end of May 2012, I happened to stumble upon a manga in the library while looking for a Maximum Ride book. It was called Boys Over Flowers. I just thought that was a weird name. I would be to embarrased to pick it up to look, so I looked at the book next to it instead (but I don't remember what the second one was called). Later that night... I forgot the manga I saw. One week later, I was in the library again and I saw it again. I still couldn't bring myself to grab it though. Finally, that night, I remembered.
I typed up the name "Boys Over Flowers" and hit search in google. I saw it had a suggestion of the first episode. I thought it was cool that it happened to also be a tv series, so I clicked it... watched the first episode... and liked it. For the three days staight, after and before school, every chance I got, I watched it. My straight A+ report card may have dropped a little at first but I figured out how to balance my time. My parents noticed my constant watching but were fine with it because as long as my grades were good they didn't care. Finally once I finished the series. I wanted to watch more. I realized it was called an anime, so I looked up more. The first thing I saw was Haruhi Suzimiya. So I watched it. The entire 42 episode series, plus all the movies. I really liked anime by then. So I looked up more anime through the library's manga. I saw "Fruits Basket", which is now one of my all time favorites. I watched it all, twice. At that point I thought all anime were awesome, so just looked up anime in youtube and found myself watching Gun x Sword... which I hated, or at least didn't like. He was just so old... So I tried to figure out my genre, leading me to watching Special A another of my favorites. From there I recalled in my younger days watching some anime with a funny blonde kid that was some sort of ninja... yep, Naruto. It wasn't to hard to find. That was the series that completely hooked me on.
In terms of anime preference my favorite genres are actually reverse harem, comedy, and romance. I try to watch a lot of shounen as well, since at school I come off as a tomboy and I don't want to ruin that image, but I usually find my happy place laying on my bed watching shoujo anime on my kindle.
My compromise between my shoujo happy place and my shounen image is definitely Blue Exorcist... and no it is nowhere near a shoujo anime, but... how do I put it I just like the feeling of being different, special in a way that can be frightening, but with the right background, heroic, which is exactly what Rin from the Blue Exorcist is.
If you took the time to read, thank you, but it was probably just a waste of time.
(side note I wrote the above in 2012, I'm no longer still 13 but I'm still just as addicted if not more)
