Okay... I love Air, and when I read your review it made me realize that I have a good reason to. So I see that you never come on... but next time you do I hope that I can see some more of your reviews because I love them. I hope that you are truly honest in them... and not just saying things that you think other people will want to hear, because if so then that really might hurt because Air is so very special to me. Well then... I hope that you will leave a message for me so that I can get to know you better than your profile.
As for Starship Operators, I thought the premise as well as the execution were faulty, though, as you said, the execution moreso. The problem I had with the premise is that it became a focus instead of merely a facet of the story, and something about that just didn't sit right with me. I didn't care one iota about the Galatic Network TV or whatever it was called. Sure it was original, but I found it shaky at best since it wasn't fully believable. Had they stuck much more to the ship's crew and explored the characters more I think I would have liked it. This success is what made Star Trek so successful in my opinion, as things like the Federation are fairly abstract - in every series the focus is always on the crew, not how the Federation acts through them. Same principle applies.
Of the Miyazaki films I've seen, Mononoke-hime is probably my favorite (well, I've liked all of them about equally, but if I had to rank them I'd pick Mononoke.) I have yet to see Laputa or Howl's Moving Castle, though, and I hope to change that in the near future - both have been strongly recommended to me already.
And I'm definitely looking forward to your new reviews too - where have they gone?! Your Clannad duo was fantastic to say the least, and I voraciously ate both up, but your subsequent lack of reviews has left me in duress! Feed me! =P
Hey, good job on your ef review. Lots of detail and good analysis. The review might actually motivate me to finally watch it (the series has been sitting on my harddrive for months now >_>).
ef an 8.0? Hm. I could only stomach two episodes before dropping it. The pacing of the story was just so damn awful and the characters didn't impress me at all. Maybe I'll pick it back up later, but it left such a sour taste in my mouth...
