I was a little hesitant to watch this anime at first. Honestly, I only gave it a chance out of boredom. The story seemed a little childish and well, even after watching a few episodes, I still didn't know whether I liked it or not.
Hanasakeru Seishounen is about a teenage girl, Kajika, who is the only daughter of Harry Burnsworth, the head of a major coorporation. When she's 14, he decides to put an idea to her about a "husband finding game." The game is that she will meet three men, which he has chosen, and chose from them a husband, but she also must make them fall in love with her because they will not know about the game. Lee-leng, Kajika's protector and bodyguard, will help her in this game. The three men she meets are Eugene, Lumati, and Carl. Lumati is part of a major inner-plot dealing with the country of Raginei. He is the second son of the King.
Although, you pretty much know the outcome of the story long before mid-way, you'll still want to watch it to find out how everyone made it through. I found that my biggest issue with this anime wasn't the story, however; it was the character, Kajika. She's just a child. At 14, she doesn't even know what love is and she's really naive. She goes throughout the whole anime believing that each "type" of love she has with these men are the same. She acts very childish at times and I just wasn't liking her character at all. I spent the whole time wishing that the character had been a little older and more mature.
The other characters, however, I did like. Lee-leng, the head of the Huang family cooporation, was my pick from the beginning. He was a childhood friend and protector of Kajika. Eugene is one of those characters that you sometimes like and sometimes don't. I never cared for Carl that much, but he's very helpful in some situations. Lumati was above all my favorite character. He grows so much throughout the anime (which spans a little over 2 years). At first, he's a very immature brat, but grows to be a handsome mature King.
After reading some of the other reviews on this anime (before I watched it myself), I have to disagree with a few comments. With the artwork, it's not bad, but it's not my favorite style either. There are a few random things in much later episodes that weren't in the earlier ones...like the random Kanji scenes, but it's so little that you barely notice. It didn't bother me that much.
Ultimately, this anime wasn't bad, but it wasn't great either. If you're looking for something to watch, then give it a shot, but otherwise...don't worry about it. It's not going to be one of those animes that you'll love and want to watch again. Like I said before, I only really wanted to finish it because I wanted to know what happened to the characters, Lumati most of all. If you do watch it, you'll like the ending. Even though I loved Lumati's character the most, I wasn't sad about the way it ended.
