Interviews with Monster Girls

Jan 9, 2017

Based on first 4 ep More detailed review to come as the show progresses... Story The first thing to say is that the initial premise of a high school teacher interviewing "monster" girls rings of weirdness. The first two episodes have been reassuring.  A world which accomodates for supernatureal beings. (e.g. vampires, succubis etc.). For some reason 4 such supernatural girls happen to be at the same school, where the biology teacher has been dying to meet such demi-humans. These demi-humans understandibly find it hard at times to manage in human world. The story follows the... See full review

The Boy and the Beast

Mar 25, 2016

The Boy and the Beast is a coming of age story Mamoru Hosoda. A 7 year old Kyuta runs away from home and ends up in the world of beasts under the care of a bear warrior Kumatetsu.  Story The storyline is very typical for a tale of coming of age. It is simple but told well to keep you interested. It was well paced and there was good use of humour.  The ending perhaps was the films weakness. It felt forced compared to seamless story leadng upto it.  Animation THe backgrounds throughout the movie were just beautiful. From the busy city scenes to the more serene rural scenes of the... Terror in Resonance

Jul 26, 2014

Based on 3 episodes Zankyou no Terror  is one the most promising shows I have watched in recent times. In a busy Japan, criminals steal some plutonium from a nuclear reactor and shortly afterwards a government building is blown up by two school aged kids. Who is responsible for these crimes and what are their motives? Will they be caught? Like any other work of good crime fiction, Zankyou no Terror so far has an intriguing plot. Though it sounds like any other crime story the story telling is excellent and well paced. Shinichi Watanabe is renowned for his character development and so far... See full review

Natsume Yuujinchou Shi

Apr 25, 2012

The first 3 seasons of the Natsume Yuujinchou series sowed many seeds from which to develop the story and characters. All of us have secrets that can sometimes make us feel alone in this world. There are somethings that the rest of the world won't or simply can't understand. Can you truly have friends who don't know important things about you? As Natsume gets more involved with the world of Youkai these questions are explored. The series continues to follow a slow-paced episodic style. What makes this season my favourite is the balance between tales of interesting Youkai with and the story... See full review

Highschool of the Dead

Jul 7, 2010

Fan service, cliched story, gore and more fan service is what this series is about. The first episode was boring, the characters were so shallow. I guess this is made for echi/gore fans. Well that's not me.

La Maison en Petits Cubes

Jun 27, 2010

Although the title, La Maison en Petits Cubes, is fairly unusual for anime, I wasn't expecting anything too unusual. So I was definitely suprised to find that it was much more like a western animated film. It reminded me of the beginning of Up (and i really liked the beginning of that film). Story - 7 This short film tells a neat story, set in the future where flooding has required people to progressively add new storeys to their homes on a regular basis. An old man goes to retrieve object bottom of his multi-storey home, as he passes each storey it brings back a story from his past. Although, the... See full review

Angel Beats!

Jun 26, 2010

The story is largely predictable though still enjoyable. For me the strength of the show was the comedy aspects and the many interesting characters. However, half the episodes take a more serious tone and for drama fans this is fine, but wasn't that it enjoyable for me. Animation and music were solid. Overall, a very enjoyable show to watch but nothing special.
