As a person who loves to review anime, I had to respond to your comment in the Milky Holmes review, but since it's rather off topic of the review itself, I decided to post it directly to you.

You've uncovered every reviewer's biggest problem, objectivity vs. subjectivity. Objective reviewers try to create a standard by which all people enjoy a work, and then attempt to review it with a scale predicting how much one will like it. Subjective reviewers approach a review with the attitude that those who read it wish to know the reviewer's own opinion about the work being critiqued, and whether other people liked it or not is irrelevant. Personally, I lean towards the latter, but a good reviewer should find balance between the two, staying faithful to one's own opinion while acknowledging the work's merits that one can perceive from one's point of view.

The reason that I contest that a subjective standard is better is due to freedom of speech. If one does not like an anime, one is not obligated to be an oracle and predict what others may or may not like abou said anime. Rather, one's own opinion is what drives the review, although it is best if one's opinion is based upon some personal standard (e.g. the one on my profile). However, if another person disagrees with one's review, that person is perfectly within his or her rights to post a review arguing why the anime was good. That way, when someone researches the anime and sees the conflicting reviews, he or she can decide whether or not he or she wishes to watch the anime.

If you liked Milky Holmes, you should write your own review about it rather than stating that someone else's review is invalid. Reviews are simply opinions structured within an argument, and you have every right to try to convince anime planet visitors to view the anime the way you saw it.
