Yeah, Anime Planet has alot of anime listed in their data base. I have seen quite a few anime series over the years (some really good and others not-so good). Based on what you mentioned you liked, here's a few recomendations.
1. Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica- I've seen this anime fairly recenty and it is awesome! It's much darker than your normal magical girl series and a great plot with lots of twists and turns.
2. Gurren Lagann- One of my favorite series. It's full of over the top action, lots of comedy, a good plot, and some ecchi as well. To tell you the truth, I'm not a big fan of ecchi, but I can tolerate it if the anime is good enough. This is definately the case for Gurren Lagann.
3. Vandread- Like Gurren Lagann, Vandread is another ecchi anime that won me over. (While Anime Planet currently doesn't have Vandread listed as ecchi, it definately has ecchi in it) It has a good plot, lots of comedy, and some action (via mechs).
4. Monster- Since you mentioned that you like mysteries, I just have to recomend Monster. While it may be rather slow paced, the story is awesome and is full of plot twists.
5. Fractale- This is another series that I've seen recently. Eventhough it's technically sci-fi, it has a fantasy-ish vibe. While some people like this series better than others, I personally found it to be an enjoyable series.
Anyways, I hope these recs are enough to get you started. I may give you some more recomendations later.
It did seem a bit jam packed at the end but it wasn't too bad in my opinion. I think there was still a lot to surprize you at the end, regardless that it should have been longer =) (Probably because I would never want it to stop xD)
If your looking for a good anime to watch I would highly suggest Clannad and Clannad After Story. Personally I think it was so good that It could beat Chobits but it doesn't lol. It's a very funny romance and the second season is a lot of sad drama mixed with more hilariousness, it was a great anime for me.
