For the director to get so much emotion across in just under hour is a vast achievment. Highschool of the Dead has everything a near-perfect anime should have: strong characters, a great premise, serious moments, funny moments, effective scenes, flawless animation, a memorable opening, a great soundtrack, subtle references to other horror films and being very good at holding the audience's attention (by that I mean that it knows when to end an episode and get you hyped for the next, as well as alot of nerve wrecking scenes (my nails were had nearly all gone by the end)). Clannad has everything, memorable characters, breathtaking animation and visuals; the lighting in the series is really spellbinding and an easy to follow story, that mixes in comedy and really heartbreaking drama moments very well and they blance just right. I really didn't like Youhei though, I found him really annoying and he kept spoiling the mood, everyone else is really well developed though. My main problem with Clannad After Story is the first 8 episodes; those episodes really serve no purpose then to develope side characters from Clannad who don't really need developing. I just wanted to see Tomoyo and Nagsias' relationship develop - however after episode 8 this soely becomes the focus of the series - the ups and downs of there relationship and Tomoyo really develops into one animes best characters. Charming is the ultimate word to describe this film. And from a Studio Ghibli film I don't think you would expect anything more, it isn't high on emotions like some of the studios previous efforts, but it has an extreamly like-able female lead in Arrietty and some of the best use in music I've seen from an anime, the music and soundtrack really up the experience and soely thanks to the music it offers very memorable scenes. There are so many effective scenes in this anime. From the subtle to the down right obvious. Can I just say that I am shocked that lots of people on this site don't like this anime; its a very effective thrill ride and attacks your emotions like no anime I've seen before (Elfen Lied is still the most emotional anime I've seen to date, but this is second). The things that bugged me in Fate/Stay Night aren't present in Fate/Zero, for starters the show actually checks in on all seven masters and servants who are taking part in the war and shows the viewer what they are doing when they aren't fighting, this in turn gave them more development because I could actually conect to them then and understand them, unlike Fate/Stay Night. Grave of the Fireflies was a really emotional experience and the bottom line is that if you don't cry at the films ending then you are not human. Trust and Betrayal sores high in every aspect; the story is intresting, the characters have depth to them and the animation is brilliant. I do love ecchi's and harems and Samurai Girls is one of the best I have seen. Not only are the characters (except for Kanetsugu, she was incredibly annoying) all interesting and in their own way like-able but the plot took very unexpected turns and the story got quite dark, when they introduced Gisen who turned out to be a brilliant villan. Short, sweet, charming, emotional and funny; Candy Boy has all those things and despite having only 7 episodes the anime gets so much character development across then most animes can do in 12+ episodes *cough* To Love-Ru *cough, cough*. Spice and Wolf is rather unique for a fantasy anime; it doesn't focus on fighting, magic, action ect it focuses more on religion, trade, economics, money amongest other thing. The charm of the seires is the character Holo and Lawrence, watching them chat and interact with each other is were the joy of the series comes from, they both bring out the worst and best in each other. The first was great and this one slightly improves on the orginal with the continuing story of Rune Balton, as the film begins exactly where the first one left off and this film focuses on Rune re-covering from her wonds in a place called Paradice, then it switches to a rather intresting game of gamberling in the second half. The first one had alot of action and was very fast, while it is the same length as the first one, there is hardly action in it and Rune Balton's revenge starts to become less violent as it was in the first one, but I find it more interesting... The taboo topic of incest is quite frequent during anime's, usually though its more a sub ark, this anime takes this topic really seriously and its just a really emotional anime; it does also dwell into the taboo of people not actsepting it. Black Lagoon is a whole lot of fun, the action is great, the animation also, but the highlight of the series is the interactions and developing relationship between Rock and Revy. Like Grave of the Fireflies this is one of Studio Ghibli's darkest films - the film is very creative and the story, for what it is, is quite engaging, however what I really don't understand is why do the humans want the head of The Deer God? It doesn't explain what they are going to do with it or why they need it, it just seems like that woman is endagering the humans for no reason and hey they give it back to him and everything goes back to normal, so that whole sequence seemed abit pointless - that's my major problem with the film and the story, but everything else before that was perfect: More in video... This is Makoto Shinkai's follow up to his masterpiece 5 Centimetres Per Second and while it doesn't reach the emotional heights of that anime, Children Who Chase Lost Voices is still a thrilling, gorgeous, orginal, creative and highly entertaining adventure. The characters aren't really memorable or developed though and the fantasy setting does make me feel very emotionally alienated from what is happening (the complete oposite is true in 5CPS) and the film really outstays it's 2 hour running time, with padded out scenes and pointless characters they introduce. Pure awsomeness this anime is. Like Yosuga No Sora there is so much to anylise in this anime. The story and the characters actions are so unpredictable, as is the mood change. Angel Beats has a brilliant interesting premise and really memorable characters; however alot of character back stories are left untold at the end or some aren't finished. This is such a shame as one of the main themes to do with the anime is death and it just left me wanting to know how the characters died. The animation and soundtrack are flawless, but the lack of focus in the story and leaving such important characters with untold back stories, makes me feel that this anime should of been longer. Story? Doesn't matter. Animation? Not good but it does the job well. Nothing else matters, all that matters is the Characters. It's a 26 episode anime, very long yes, but my motavation for watching all episodes was the Characters, they are all like-able, developed and the series used it's time up well (except episode 13, which was a pointless filler).
