This is a short and fun little series; the characters completely sell it and I kept watching just to spend more time with them. They are all really funny - more in video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sqAzr31gNcI BBFC rating - N/A My BBFC rating - 15 for strong sex references

5 Centimeters per Second

Nov 11, 2011

For the director to get so much emotion across in just under hour is a vast achievment. The film speaks to me as visual poetry then anything else, as well as having a story anyone can relate too, makes this anime a masterpiece at visuals and emotion - prepare for an emtionally draining hour that you will never forget...more in video review: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5cYgwD7kFJg BBFC rating - U

Angel Beats!

Nov 2, 2012

Angel Beats has a brilliant interesting premise and really memorable characters; however alot of character back stories are left untold at the end or some aren't finished. This is such a shame as one of the main themes to do with the anime is death and it just left me wanting to know how the characters died. The animation and soundtrack are flawless, but the lack of focus in the story and leaving such important characters with untold back stories, makes me feel that this anime should of been longer. It's a great anime, but I feel like it could of been a masterpiece if it took more time to develop these... See full review

Attack on Titan

Nov 8, 2013

SPOILER WARNING!!! Attack on Titan has an amazing premise and that's the only reason I wanted to watch it; when I read the premise I had in my mind that this could be a really heavy, shocking and emotional show. I got that in the first 2 episodes and everything was oh so epic; as I went further it got more interesting and then the shocking ending of episode 5 happened, when Eren 'died'. I was like man, this anime is going to be awesome, they just did a bold thing there by killing off the main character, it's going to be like Game of Thrones man, anyone can die. Fast forward to the end of episode 8; Eren is... See full review

Black Lagoon is a whole lot of fun, the action is great, the animation also, but the highlight of the series is the interactions and developing relationship between Rock and Revy. Black Lagoon: The Second Barrage

Jan 14, 2015

Well another second season next to spice and wolf that disapointed me. I thought Black Lagoon was about the Lagoon company partaking in jobs, but that completely gets forgotten in this season, Benny and Dutch taking a back seat to everything, with Rock and Revy being the stars. However the arcs presented in this anime, just aren't interesting except for the twins at the start of the show. The last arc which takes up half of the show is so dull and so uninteresting because I just did not care about this character. Character development is completely side tracked in favour of action. Black Rock Shooter TV

Aug 3, 2013

Black Rock Shooter is 8 episodes long, an incredibly short anime, but I spent nearly all of the anime terribly confused and only when it reached episode 8 did everything sort of make sense, but it's too late anime, the damage has been done. The anime seemed to be terribly confused as to what it wanted to be: did it want to be a science fiction anime with alot of fighting? A school life anime that focuses on these mentally unstable school girls? It couldn't make it's mind, so it decided to be both, even though it hardly makes sense. For a fight scene to work I have to get invested with what they are... See full review

Boku wa Imouto ni Koi wo Suru

Oct 22, 2011

The taboo topic of incest is quite frequent during anime's, usually though its more a sub ark, this anime takes this topic really seriously and its just a really emotional anime; it does also dwell into the taboo of people not actsepting it. Yosuga No Sora was the sex side of incest, this is the true love side of incest. Video review - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ParCv6NReE4 BBFC rating - N/A My BBFC rating - 18 for an incest theme

Children Who Chase Lost Voices

Apr 5, 2013

This is Makoto Shinkai's follow up to his masterpiece 5 Centimetres Per Second and while it doesn't reach the emotional heights of that anime, Children Who Chase Lost Voices is still a thrilling, gorgeous, orginal, creative and highly entertaining adventure. The characters aren't really memorable or developed though and the fantasy setting does make me feel very emotionally alienated from what is happening (the complete oposite is true in 5CPS) and the film really outstays it's 2 hour running time, with padded out scenes and pointless characters they introduce. But just sit back and soak in the visuals, the... See full review

Clannad

Jul 6, 2012

Clannad has everything, memorable characters, breathtaking animation and visuals; the lighting in the series is really spellbinding and an easy to follow story, that mixes in comedy and really heartbreaking drama moments very well and they blance just right. I really didn't like Youhei though, I found him really annoying and he kept spoiling the mood, everyone else is really well developed though. Clannad After Story

Aug 6, 2012

My main problem with Clannad After Story is the first 8 episodes; those episodes really serve no purpose then to develope side characters from Clannad who don't really need developing. I just wanted to see Tomoyo and Nagsias' relationship develop - however after episode 8 this soely becomes the focus of the series - the ups and downs of there relationship and Tomoyo really develops into one animes best characters. Episodes 16-22 have some of the saddest moments I have ever seen from an anime and will test those with hearts of stone (I sobbed about 3 times during those episodes - episode 18 was the... Eden of the East

Feb 25, 2011

Eden of the East has some of the best animation you are likely to ever see in an anime series and the story for what it is, is very intrestingly woven together, even if everything doesn't tie up in the end. However Characters is what makes and breaks an anime, the lack of character development really hurts this anime and most of the characters just seem like tools to explain things or help the main hero; the lead girl character is the biggest tool of them all, she does nothing, that helps the story - she is just the love intrest... Explained more in the video review: ... Fate/stay night

Jan 19, 2014

While watching Fate/Stay Night I found the actually Holy Grail War aspect of the show to be incredibly dull, due to a great lack of character development for the masters and servants. Why the 8 then? Because the developing relationship of Shiro and Saber was fantastic and over the course of the show they both affect each other in different ways - their romance was brilliant and luckily they are in the show 90% of the time, but getting through all the boring battles and the discussion of the war was a chour to get through: More in video review: ... Fate/Zero

Jan 19, 2014

The things that bugged me in Fate/Stay Night aren't present in Fate/Zero, for starters the show actually checks in on all seven masters and servants who are taking part in the war and shows the viewer what they are doing when they aren't fighting, this in turn gave them more development because I could actually conect to them then and understand them, unlike Fate/Stay Night. Highschool of the Dead

Sep 10, 2011

Highschool of the Dead has everything a near-perfect anime should have: strong characters, a great premise, serious moments, funny moments, effective scenes, flawless animation, a memorable opening, a great soundtrack, subtle references to other horror films and being very good at holding the audience's attention (by that I mean that it knows when to end an episode and get you hyped for the next, as well as alot of nerve wrecking scenes (my nails were had nearly all gone by the end)). Howl's Moving Castle

May 21, 2012

I give the anime high marks for creativity and having some of the best animation in the business, but the anime seems to be lacking a plot and characters to back it up. There is no focus in the story and it seems to be just throwing random events and beings/creatures at us with no ryhme or reason; there are side characters that also go no where and there motivations change in a instant. It's a shame, because we have the world, the set up and the creativity, but we don't have a strong and focused story to go around it. Spirited Away was random, but there was still an overall story and the main focus was... See full review

This is just a funny anime, with likeable characters and all. If you critises this for 'fanservice' then go and critise other animes for violence; for violence is just another type of 'fanserivce'. But hey for some odd reason no one ever critises violence, murder and death, they critises harmless nudity. Sick fucks. Kite has a very unique and gritty style to it, but the film has so many plot holes that its hard to ignore, as well as having little to no character development. 45 mins just doesn't seem like enough time to develop the story and characters, but Kite has the best shoot-outs/fight scenes I've ever seen in animation. Mardock Scramble: The Second Combustion

Aug 3, 2013

The first was great and this one slightly improves on the orginal with the continuing story of Rune Balton, as the film begins exactly where the first one left off and this film focuses on Rune re-covering from her wonds in a place called Paradice, then it switches to a rather intresting game of gamberling in the second half. The first one had alot of action and was very fast, while it is the same length as the first one, there is hardly action in it and Rune Balton's revenge starts to become less violent as it was in the first one, but I find it more interesting...
