Brand New Animal

Apr 6, 2022

I won't bore you with massive details.  This is developed by Trigger Studious, they know how to do animation and music right. This anime is no exception. It's one of the few that I don't skip both the intro and outro and the animatino has that classic Trigger sharp cartoonish styel to it that you come to expect from them.  The song Ready to by Sumire Morohoshi, the Japanese voice actress for the main character, is particularly great. The plot is pretty unique. The world is full of anthropomorphic beings known as Beastmen who are attempting to live in harmony with humans in Anima-City. A Tanuki... See full review

When They Cry: Higurashi

Dec 18, 2020

It's been some time since Higurashi came out in 2006 and with the 2020 release by Passione has reignited my interest in finishing the first season. I'm aware that it's adapted from a VN but I have not had the fortune of reading it, so I only have the anime to go on. Despite not having watched it since 2012, I found myself being drawn back into the story and mystery all over again. I wanted to know what was happening and the answers only making me question more in a good way. I enjoy the sudden shift from goofy fun and slice of life tone to horror and paranoia, making me wonder when someone is going to snap... See full review

Sword Art Online

Oct 12, 2012

Warning! This review may contain spoilers of the anime Sword Art Online. Proceed with Caution! I was very excited to see the Sword Art Online anime after reading the light novel and after seeing the "end" of the first novel in the anime, I was not disappointed. It followed the novel well and managed to cut out parts without getting rid of major plots points. Story: Imagine being able to actually go into a video game and play around like you were actually there (Think of the Matrix). You meet other people and are having fun when you suddenly find out that you can't log out of the virtual... See full review

First Squad: The Moment Of Truth

May 20, 2011

Story First Squad had an interesting mix of action and the supernatural.  I think what struck me the most in the OVA were the interviews of war veterans and historians.  They made it seem historical and real.  I myself thought that the movie was real for a few minutes.  What had me on the edge of my seat was the chase scene on the train and build up to the final battle.  Then it happened to fall flat on its face.  The final scene seemed to be over in a blink and the ending left a dry taste in my mouth.  The whole thing itself made it seem like the pilot episode of a... Angel Beats!

Mar 28, 2011

Story: After seeing this series I have to say that the story, while great and interesting, does have some holes in it. The story starts off with a boy named Otonashi waking up in purgatory with no memories of his past life.  Right off the bat a girl named Yuri asks him to join the Shinda Sekai Sensen (SSS), a group led by Yuri to fight against God in retaliation for the unjust lives they led.  Their only real opponent is a girl called Angel, who is sort of like the moderator of purgatory. Along the way the members of the SSS learn that the only way to leave purgatory is to let go of your... See full review
