I really like Anime but I'm not a full-time otaku, mostly because I can't find animes that will really interest me. My fav so far would be: Death Note, Texhnolyze, Tatami Galaxy, Space Cowboy, Paranoia Agent, Serial Experiments Lain and Neon Genesis Evangelion. ( I do have many others to watch though).

Oh wow, having epilepsy must be interesting, if nothing else, heh. I love Nietzsche and I just took an entire class on him actually. He and Ludwig Wittgenstein are my favorite philosophers. I take it that you're a fan yourself? What have you read by him? My favorite book by him is probably Thus Spoke Zarathustra, but Ecce Homo and the Geneology of Morals are up there also.

I've been listening to Soap&Skin on youtube after reading your list of musicians. Her music is so gorgeously haunting, my favorite song so far is "Spiracle". Definitely getting Lovetune for Vacuum.

Some anime you might want to check out: Haibane Renmei - has the same original creator as Serial Experiments Lain, Ghost Hound - more psychological and paranormal than philosophical, but it has the same director and writer as Serial Experiments Lain and it's definitely strange and interesting, xxxholic - again, more on the psychological and paranormal side, but there's also some philosophy in there, Aoi Bungaku Series - six different stories, which are all based on japanese literature, some of which are more philosophical than others. The most obviously philosophical of those four is Haibane Renmei, but it's very slow paced (not sure how much excitement you generally require in anime). There's also an upcoming (hopefully) anime called Despera, which I expect to be very philosophical since it includes all the original staff from Serial Experiments Lain (sorry, it's hard for me to discuss philosophical anime without mentioning SEL multiple times XD), but its production is currently on hold because the director is having health issues : (.

The similarity between Dostoyevski and The Castle never occured to me, but I see what you mean now that I think about it. Borges is more similar to Kafka than any other author I know, I recommend his collection of short stories called "Labyrinths". Most of the stories in that collection are very philosophical and occasionally even reference certain philosophers by name. My favorite Dostoyevski book is The Idiot, but Crime and Punishment comes close. I love Notes from the Underground, but, for me, it's too short to rank on the same level as his full novels. Not that longer books are necessarily better, but when I read Dostoyevski I want to savor it for as long as possible :P Notes from the Underground really reminded me of "Nausea" by Sartre, have you read it? I actually read Nausea first, so maybe that's why I don't like Notes quite as much as you. I've heard of Steppenwolf, but I haven't gotten around to reading it yet.

I'd be happy to recommend some philosophical anime, I'll just sift through your lists and see what's missing. I'm always on the look out for more, there aren't as many as there should be XD

Hey, great book and anime selection. Dostoyevski and Kafka are among my favorite three authors along with Borges. I haven't heard of Veronica decides to die, but I'm going to look into it now. Not familiar with most of your favorite musicians, radiohead and fever ray are fantastic though. Although, following popular opinion, I was rather disappointed with the king of limbs. It isn't exactly bad, just repetitive and watered down I think. You have a wonderful 'want to watch' list too, I'm excited for you haha.

*sigh* Yes i don't blame you the more friends i make that are from other countries the more i realize how americans are viewed. It makes me sad sometimes; but the fact of the matter is we are a huge country with quite a lot of ignorant people. And the ignorant ones always scream overtop of the people who have common sense. ^_^;

And nope! I didn't know any of them~ But just for you i looked them up xD *listening to Radiohead-Creep at the moment. Do you reccomend any songs?
