Passive feeling while watching anime?

3 DEC
2009

...and suddenly I got an urge to write about this one thing that has been bothering me for a while:

As watching anime is my favorite pastime, I have noticed that it is quite a passive hobby, especially if you are doing it alone. (Seeing that one just sits there and observes) After a couple of episodes I just got to do something, like go to walk or play some video games to get rid of that annoying feeling. Sometimes I just pause the episode in the middle of action and surf on the internet for a while... Is that just some kind of impulse?

Do you get a sudden urge to do something while you are watching anime?

Try writing reviews after watching an anime, like Omurqi said he does. It might just give anime-watching/being an otaku more meaning to relieve your feelings of, for lack of a better word, passiveness. However, if you're like me, you won't want to spend a significant amount of time and/or have a low review-writing ability, so I suggest making a "Watch Log" like I've just recently began.

For instance, for each month, you make a blog to list all the anime episodes you've watched during that month. Give each individual episode a 1-to-5 star rating perhaps, and give a little mini-review or write your observations about the episode. Check out my recent blog for an example.

Hope it helps :)

It really depends on a quality of a title. There are cases where I pulled an all-nighter, because the show or manga just kept me glued to the screen. There are also other cases, like Sacred Blacksmith for example, where one ep/week is more than enough for me.

I get up and leave (to go swimming, eat something, whatever) halfway through an episode all the time. Sometimes I don't come back for hours. I've decided that's what the eyecatches are for, anyway.

I get that every now and then, usually when I'm watching something terribly average. Another thing I really began to enjoy doing, is writing reviews and making recommendations after watching something. Started out as a pretty bad writer, but it got better and more enjoyable over time.
