Well, I suppose that one should see more than numbers, titles, and characters when they visit this page; so, here's a little bit about myself and what kind of otaku I am.
The anime which got me hooked onto the entire genre was Rurouni Kenshin. Before then, I had mostly watched things like Dragon Ball, Robotech, Yu Yu Hakusho, Vampire Hunter D, and Sailor Moon without really being conscious of the fact that they were anime. But, Rurouni Kenshin's characters, plot, and thematics held such an excellence as I had not seen in any other cartoon. The result of this was that I plunged into the medium, and have been a devoted fan (with a few breaks, of course: eventually, one culture is too small for any human being) since 2003. My next favorite series was Inuyasha, which I enjoyed so much that I learned Japanese in order to avoid waiting for VIZ media to translate new volumes of the manga. At which point, I started reading anime magazines (Anime Insider (now defunct) and Newtype USA (also gone) were my favorites) to find new series to watch. From there, I joined a close knit group of fans in college who had a much wider range of experience than me and have introduced me to many more great series. They directed me to the classics, while I encouraged them to watch new shows and movies. And here I am today with unfortunately less time to devote to this hobby and a much greater desire to watch the classics!
As you can see, Action, Fantasy, and Comedy are my favorite genres--which translates to "I'm up for anything which will lift my mind from the cares of ordinary, everyday life." As for a description of my general personality, the adjectives religious, kind, diffident, bookish, wistful, quiet, know-it-all, and impatient come to mind. Basically, the kind of person few notice and fewer find interesting. But, I do hope that the above kept you amused for a short time!
