Today, my dad and mom had a small argument about what it means to force someone into something. My mom claimed that as long as she never directly said "I'm forcing you to come," she's fine. My dad responded that it depends on how you said it.
The main problem is that my dad isn't very forceful about his opinion. Much of his points are insinuated. But that's not the point.
The literary device "tone" is defined as the atomsphere the words create for the piece. Mood is the feeling the reader comes experiences as he reads. People overlook tone. They focus on the words they're using as if they hold the same meaning with or without inflection. People overuse tone. They equip a tone over and over again, trying to make a point. The tone they use becomes worn out and holds less meaning.
