Gintama is simply a pleasure to watch.
Not to much attention is drawn to it's voided storyline and every episode simply plays out it's own narrative each time, ud'e think an anime without any kind of story behind it would fail in an instant, but i think the reason Gintama lasted for so long (and continues on in it's new form) because the character bonds fall under constant focus.
Relationships are stretched to the limit, often through ridiculous circumstances and resolved right next the precipice at the end of the episode at which point; more often enough, the whole story shatters under it's own comical stupidity and i think that's what makes gintama so successful, is that it makes fun of itself so often that any kind of critism either has absolutely no effect on the episode or become part of the narrative for the next set of episodes to come.
