woah woah woah there! I'm not saying that Kuroshitsuji is better than Baccano, I'm not saying it as a fact, just in my opinion I believe it to be better and more enjoyable too.
I wasn't dismissing anyone's view on Baccano, I didn't even say anything like that which is why I'm having trouble wondering where you got that from... and it is not in any way elitist to say that I dismiss Baccano as being a good anime or in my words "a real anime" at all; I have the right to say what I believe to be a good anime or not.
And yes, Kuroshitsuji is not the best, it's not even in my favourites, but I still love it for reasons beyond my knowing, perhaps it was just so different from Baccano, that and I do like that style of anime.
I respect everyone's opinions on whatever anime they choose to be their favourites, and in which case, you need to respect my opinions on Baccano and Kuroshitsuji too. I was not saying that everyone should hate Baccano!
Also "vague, non-sensical term as justification". This doesn't make sense since I have not even stated what I count as "real anime"; you have just assumed what I believe to be real anime.
** <-- I took a break because I fell down the stairs today and my wrist was hurting. That and I had exams....
Anyway, thank you for stating your reasons! That must have taken a long time to write... but thanks! I really was wondering why people love it so much. I think I may watch it again just to see if I like it better. And you watched the dub...? Because I watched the sub, but if you say the dubs good then I may watch it this time around, just to see if its better.
Hello there, supremely belated response regarding Zipang:
Well, define 'original' and it'll take you forever.
Aside from the American film you mentioned there is other anime with a similar premise (although it is basically straight up arch-conservative let's win the war for Japan fare).
A big difference between Zipang and the American film - and what gives Zipang much of its ambivalent power, however ineffectual in places - is that Japan lost... and how Kusaka interprets this in particular I thought was pretty interesting.
Ok, no stalking, how about just a welcome then?
