So, I've been a fan of anime and manga for over 25 years. I'm a writer, sometime journalist, reviewer of many, many things, total self critic, radio presenter and producer, and co-creator and co-host of the UK's only live FM radio show dedicated to all things geek (which I've cunningly named The Geek Show so people won't confuse it with my other show, Literary Loitering).

We broadcast every Monday from 6-8 pm (GMT) on 104.5 FM in the local area, but you can listen live online. If you like what you hear, then you can download all of our previous episodes from our website.

You can also join our Facebook group, visit our club on My Anime List, or follow us on Twitter.

Some final points. If I ever write anything about an anime that pisses you off, deal with it. If you have valid, cogent arguments then I'm perfectly happy to discuss them with you in a constructive manner that's mutually beneficial, but I won't tolerate crass or rude behaviour, backbiting, etc, and I don't get involved in other people's fights.

Furthermore, if you're going to insult me at any time then be creative. It's not worth the effort otherwise and I'll just ignore you until you go away or wither into nothing.

Awesome to hear from you again, Archaeon. I have no problem waiting, as long as I know it's not indefinite. More than that I appreciate your offering time, considering that I'm a relatively random guy with an interest in a show you've probably gone way past by now. :p

As to your immediate post response, I've contemplated watching it in chronological order. I definitely did notice changes in shiki's character throughout the movies, watching them in the order they were put out, and actually think that that is the appropriate order for them to be seen, even psychologically. I say this, because I firmly believe they wanted to create one perception of Shiki for you, in the first movie, and then completely destroy that in the second movie (they present her as a much more chilling, even murderous character in the second, where in the first she is more simply cold, but badass), thus creating a moral dilemma of sorts in theviewer's mind, where the two perceptions of the character clash.  I think that the way they present it is to make it more like a puzzle, where you get bits and pieces of how she's changed, and have to decide, before the final entry, whether or not she will, and is in fact even deserving of, redemption, in the last movie. I've watched the epilogue, and, while it immediately cleared up a few things, a lot of it honestly didn't make as much sense as I'd like. I'm still trying to figure out parts of it. And what's more, I've talked with various people about KnK, and heard differing reactions, ranging from contempt for a perceived failure of KnK to answer the moral questions it posed, to reactions of utter bliss, where they think KnK's ending is perfect. I seek to obtain a happy medium in my own mind, where I acknowledge and consider its' weaknesses, but also think about how its' strong points perhaps give the show itself a form of "redemption". Now, I've had a personal interest in, and certainly been exposed to, philosophy of various sorts, and I hope to view KnK both from a story/plot perspective, and from a more "philosophical"/thematic perspective. For example, I love how the show manages to touch on so many different forms of what is considered in many societies to be "sinful", ie murder, rape, suicide, drug abuse, home abuse, etc and actually get one thinking through the "contextual philosophy" of the events that occur within each episode, this not even really touching on the questions about meaning of existence that repeatedly come up. Mmmm, before I get too carried away, I'll just say "more on this when we talk". :p

Thanks again, Archaeon, have fun with work. :)

Hi Archaeon. So I'm about to rewatch knk with some of my friends, and I remembered that we never actually got around to talking about the show. Do you think that's still possible? I'd much prefer maybe an hour of chat over using comments, if it is. Thanks. :)

Heya,

Was browsing through some random reviews today and I got sidetracked reading a whole bunch of yours because they were so different from most of the reviews here. You point out a lot of things that traditional reviews don't even address, to the point where I've achieved a greater appreciation of (or disdain for) a number of series I've already seen. Just wanted to voice my approval; props on the ingenuity.

Hi Archaeon. I know we've been saying we'd do this for a while now. I was wondering if you'd come onto chat tonight, and talking with me about knk episode 7 for a bit, maybe half and hour to an hour. I would really appreciate it at this point.
