Though since you presist that instrumentality is some mind, bondage ravaging experiance give me some time to write you an essay on facts that few of hardcore fanatics (includes me) wrote about instrumentality... or I will just shamelesly rip someone off and post it here and correct some minor mistakes...
In a nutshell; instrumentality is still most horrid thing I could ever think of, though there is a lot of assumptions that go over that and elaborate it as something not so mind ravaging, at least in execution, theory of it is the wrongest thing ever.
You thought it through I see... BUT. If of all people Asuka managed to find some self worth to emerge, not to mention that she needed some time, a lot to be precised theories are aprox 2-3 months. It hardy matters but since we are pressing on the world's logic. Anyway, proof for long wait is the scenery when Shinji took a long time building all that toombstones, not to mention rusty cross scene, so that is a proof of existant resources and what not. So if of all people SHE came out... then I see no reason why everyone couldn't do it. In EoE there is a shit load of simbolism that represents the cicle of renewal, some cabalistic, some ortodoxal... point is a lot of them, which clearely shows what someone wanted to say. If we are to look from realistic perspective there is a really thin chance of survival, though I did read a book (not bible) that was scientificaly bomb and goes around 2 people renewing world population, alone, in the desert... so yeah....
Point is; this is just probability problem. If you want to believe that everyone will come out and humanity will stand tall, not to mention that this is 3rd impact, 2nd happened and we still lived :3 Or you can look at it at more realistic perspective and obviously conclude that not everyone can manage the whole rebirth process, and in the end noone can survive based on statistics. Anime logic or reallity logic, it hardy matters It is what you make of it...
We saw a mind of one fucked up kid, I'm shure normal people would have no problem whatsoever returning. I mean I would hate being surounded with people since I consider 95% of people I ever met complete idiots and I would return asap.
