Several months late, but I wanted to respond to your comment on my Higurashi Kai review.
No, I didn't necessarily want it to continue with the gore thematic - a quick perusal of my Shigurui review and the magnanimous amount of rage I got for bashing it should be proof of that. What I did want was an intelligent piecing together all of the mystery and a solid conclusion, not a pseudo-shonen power of friendship thing that discarded the appeal and mystique of the first series. Following its previous style was much more my concern than content, as the first season sold itself on the frailty of the characters and the mystery that their interactions provided. An ending that properly tied this together instead of entirely discarding it would have been much more preferable in my eyes.
