Koujitsusei no Tobira

Sep 24, 2014

Works by Shoowa are a mixed bag for me.  I first came across her when reading Bokura no Mitsudomoe Sensou which was basically... porn? Yeah... Senseless, mindless porn with even less excuse of a plot than what I'm used to in BL manga. No witty dialogue, no fine characterisation, just three dudes fucking each other. What a waste of pretty artwork. But that's not what we're talking about in this review. Shoowa also does drama and when she does, she does it well. Koujitsusei no Tobira is one of her more serious stories and is... See full review

Kijin Gahou

Aug 22, 2014

I don't even know anymore. This manga is one of the most vile, disgusting, bizarre, weird and perplexing things that I have ever read.  Kijin Gahou is a collection of short stories by guro mangaka Shintarou Kago. Guro (or ero guro) is a literary and artistic movement that focuses on erotic and grotesque imagery (thanks Wikipedia!). And well, this manga certainly doesn't disappoint when it comes to that. You have girls performing harakiri as a sort of fashion fad, flower arrangement with (dead) foetuses and Santa Claus burying people under dildos and porn magazines. And those aren't even the weirdest... See full review

Akudama

Aug 17, 2014

Now, I'm normally someone who likes her BL manga with lots of pretty boys and clean art. Shallow, I know, but that's not to say that the story doesn't have to be good. There are lots of titles out there that may have amazing artwork, but are definitely lacking in the plot department. Akudama may not have the most conventional style and the characters aren't really your average bishie, but damn, did it tug at my heartstrings. The manga consists of 1 volume and contains two seperate stories. The first one, Akudama,  is about a high school student who gets caught shoplifting by a man. Desperate to... See full review

Shinobi Life

Oct 2, 2014

Beni Fujiwara is your average high school student with a bit of a tendency to get kidnapped. One day she gets rescued by a man in a strange ninja costume. And he suddenly declares his eternal loyalty to her? Turns out her savior, a shinobi by the name of Kagetora, fell into a lake and travelled all the way from Feudal Japan to the present. It seems that Beni is a descendant and the spitting image of the princess he was serving. The two even have the same name! What will happen when he finds out she’s not the Beni-hime he’s looking for? Story Shinobi Life tries to balance a lot of things; it... See full review
