In the streets of Tokyo, demons walk amongst us, but only they know we exist. The protector of the city is Karas, a man who transforms into a crow-armored persona when evil threatens humanity. Saying much more about the plot of Karas would be borderline spoiling (don’t worry, the AniRec description doesn’t spoil), so that’s really all you need to know. Creatures are draining humans of blood, and a sinister villain wants to take control of Tokyo. Who better to stop the nefarious plans than Karas?
Unbeknownst to humans, demons from an overlapping dimension walk amongst them in the streets of Tokyo. The balance between the worlds is kept by the crow guardian Karas and Yurine, its master and voice of the living city. However, the time of harmony nears the end as the once-Karas Lord Eko returns. Seeking to purge humanity for its evils, he terrorizes the city with his minions that feast on human blood. The ultimate battle between good and evil awaits; can Yurine and her newly initiated Karas prevail against Lord Eko and protect their city against his monstrous horde?
Think you have what it takes to be one of Anime-Planet's site reviewers? Find out more!
My fav genres include sci fi and horror, but you'll find a lot of obscure reviews from me too, given I watch a ton to add to the database. My new reviews are written a lot better than my old ones, so when in doubt, sort by date! ^_^ Enjoy, and I welcome any and all feedback.
great review i like this anime so much
I love its animation so damn much XD, and as you said the story or characters weren't really good.
thanks sothis for the review ^_^
I have to say, The beauty of Karas is not only in the jaw dropping (cliche description, I know) visuals and great story, but the length of it. This could have easily spawned a regular series or a spinoff Karas 2, but I feel something would have been lost in that. Yes, I would agree that having a large cast was a bit annoying, but nessisary. You can't really go around lopping limbs off the same person a bunch of times. Well, you can in anime, but it gets a little redundant.
Also, I love bacon. You stay classy anime planet.
@ Sothis: I would have hoped so. I've watched all six Karas and I don't think it's as impressive as you touted it to be with this review. I agree completely when it comes to the animation; it was near flawless, but the story just got so ridiculous in the second half. I think I might have brained my damage after the constant onslaught of facepalms that assaulted my forehead after critical plot points were revealed.
Then there's the characters. Ugh. Otoha's backstory is just ass retarded, plain and simple. Ability to feel no pain =/= SUPER SAMURAI WARRIOR. Lolwut? Incest? Brother/Father at the same time? What the FUCK? I can say for certain that if I was the spirit of a city, I would NOT choose an inbred murderer with a high pain tolerance as my warrior. Then there's Eko, who's motives are equally as ass retarded as Otoha's backstory. We're going to respond to arrogance with genocide?! Talk about massive retaliation... His 'punishment' was completely disproportionate to the sins he was attempting to punish. For a supposedly ancient and wise being, he didn't even have the foresight to see the adverse affect that his actions would have on his own kind.
I'm sure there are other ways that I could slander the second half, but I think that it does that well enough on it's own. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed Karas, but purely as a mindless action flick. I found no reason to like it after the gorgeous visuals, awesome fight scenes, and MAYBE, just MAYBE, Yurine's character design.
Thanks for the review i will watch this anime soon thank you soo much for the helpful review
