Legend of the Forest is cleverly focused on the same topic as its title: the forest. Produced by the famous Osamu Tezuka in the late 80s, this 30 minute movie (which has a few definite sections) is voiceless and is basically a good old "here's why humans and the environment don't mix and why we shouldn't kill animals and cut down trees" story. Set to Tchaikovsky's Fourth Symphony, Legend of the Forest is a voiceless tale of human encroachment into the forests and its furry and feathered inhabitants. With only a chainsaw, one man will destroy families and lives for his own selfish gain, and the citizens of the forest will never be the same. Join the varied cast of birds, trees, squirrels, gnomes and fairy folk as they struggle to survive in their dying homeland...
Think you have what it takes to be one of Anime-Planet's site reviewers? Find out more!
My fav genres include sci fi and horror, but you'll find a lot of obscure reviews from me too, given I watch a ton to add to the database. My new reviews are written a lot better than my old ones, so when in doubt, sort by date! ^_^ Enjoy, and I welcome any and all feedback.
Now I have to watch this for the ONOES! Factor.
I think the "Animation" section of this review severely misses part of the point. The mismatched animation styles was deliberate... it paid homage to different eras and styles of animation. It's like complaining that the animation in Pom Poko was inconsistent (there was a deliberate attempt to have differing styles there too), or that in the live-action film The Aviator the colour was inconsistent (it changed throughout to match the prominent techniques of each era portrayed).
It should probably also be considered that this is an incomplete (at present) work.
I love everyting from Tezuka and this was not exception this review was typically from some stupid Moe lover in the USA who doesn't know any better and only want's to see the newest shit people like this are exactly the reason why tezuka can't become mainstream in the English speaking world.
Though his manga at least seem to get there finaly because Vertical knows what there doing but there selection isn't still anywhere compared to countries like France.
