Otomen

Otomen

Asuka Masamune is a manly man who's the complete opposite deep down - he loves sewing, cooking and all things girly! As his father left when he was a child to live as a woman, Asuka was raised to be the boy he is, but he can't forget his true nature. Now, as a teen, Asuka finds himself in the company of Ryou, a boyish girl he's fallen head over heels for; Juuta, a secret writer of shoujo manga who's modeled a character after Asuka; and a variety of others such as his self-proclaimed apprentice Yamato. Can Asuka learn how to balance his two sides and finally get the girl he loves?

Those may look like two most unlike series to have something in common, but on a closer look there actually is something there. In both series gender role reversal is a major theme (if you pay close attention to the male lead in Witchcraft Works, you'll notice that he does share some similarities with the male lead from Otomen). If that's the theme you're after, I encourage you to give both a try.

This recommendation is based on a single thing Ayaka from Witch Craft Works and Ichi from Baketeriya are similar characters. If you liked one series for that particular character (an overprotective kuudere), then you might want to give the other one a try.

Attack on Titan

Attack on Titan

Over a century ago, mankind was devoured by giant beings of unknown intelligence and origin known as Titans – creatures that eat humans alive indiscriminately and for no apparent reason. The remaining population has managed to survive the last hundred years only by building a multi-walled city capable of keeping the Titans at bay, training military recruits to patrol the perimeter and gather intelligence about their mysterious foe. Eren and Mikasa have lived a relatively peaceful life behind the city's walls, but when a massive Titan appears, smashing the outer barrier and unleashing a wave of terror, their lives are brutally changed forever...

What could, seemingly unrelated series like Attack on Titan and Witch Craft Works, possibly have in common? Badass, overprotective kudderes, that's what. If you read one of those two series, you should very well know what I'm talking about. If not, I can add that in both series the female lead is a badass, overprotective kuudere with an obsession over the male lead. However, story wise, those series are not very similar. It's up to you to decide whether to read them or not, but if you're into female characters like this, at least now you should know where to look.

The female leads in both series have similar personality, they utterly loyal to the (seemingly useless) male lead and look down on everyone else (and sometimes even on the male lead). The things they say points toward the type of female character who does everything her "master" asks her to do, however their actions prove otherwise (they have no restrains forcing the guy do things which they think that are good for him). Note that Clockwork Planet has potential to turn into a harem, while it's very unlikely in case of Witch Craft Works. Nonetheless, if you liked one of those two ladies, the other one should prove interesting as well.

What connects those two series is the fact that in both the female lead is a super strong protector of the male lead for whom she harbors romantic feelings. This might not be a lot, but should be enough for some people to try one if they liked the other.
