Manga in 200 Words: Train Man: A Shoujo Manga
Premise: An otaku sees a girl get groped on a crowded train and stands up for her. She is grateful, and he doesn’t know what to do, so he turns to an internet forum for advice. The community bands together, and helps him improve himself, and the “Train Man” pursues the girl.
Fun fact: This is based on a true story, which makes it so much better. I love knowing that actual strangers came together and helped the real Train Man to grow socially and personally, and that things ended up working out.
Romance: It’s adorably innocent. I have a soft spot for the socially inept who try to make their first steps into a bigger world, so this really got me.
The Forum: The forum in Train Man sounds genuine to me: it takes time for things to develop fully, and many of the people sound like they are bored people looking for entertainment rather than champions of love or something foolish.
Overall: Train Man is everything that a one shot shoujo manga should be: it’s poignant, genuine, and refreshing. Shoujo fans need to read this. They won’t regret it.
