Both series have a female protagonist, however there personalities are far different from each other. I recommend these since both series have a large amount of story based in feudal china. If you enjoy the time period and reverse harems, these both are highly recommended.
Both manga are set in a country that resembles ancient China. The heroine tries her best to help out the emperor and the people of the country and is surrounded by many handsome guys.
Since long ago, the wolf goddess Holo has honored a contract to bless the rural village of Pasloe with fertile harvests; and in return she has been celebrated and worshipped by the villagers. But as mankind advances, the people have begun to take command of nature for themselves and have made their own god to worship. Holo finds that she is paid little more than lip service, if not outright mocked; and considering the contract annulled, she takes human form and enlists the aid of a passing merchant, Kraft Lawrence, to return to her home in the snowy forests to the north. As they journey together, Kraft finds that he has plenty to learn from this capricious god, and she from him as well.

The female protagonists in Saiunkoku Monogatari and Spice and Wolf give off the same type of character feeling in how they approach situations. Even in a time where the female was not look on as being smart these two female leads take every aspect of a situation into account and figure how to correctly deal with the problem
Hakuouki follows Chizuru and the Shinsengumi in an alternate reality. Chizuru travels to Kyoto in search of her missing father but, after being involved in an incident, she ends up being taken in by the Shinsengumi where she meets the members including the famous Hijikata Toshizou and Okita Souji. Chizuru’s father was conducting government research for strengthening the Shinsengumi and developed the ochimizu. The ochimizu is a formula that gives demon-like strength and regeneration effects, but once taken, the user experiences extreme pain and eventually turns into a blood-thirsty monster.

It is not hard to see how Saiunkoku Monogatari and Hakuouki Junrenka are similar. The strong female characters take on a role unlike the ones they are supposed to be playing in these historical settings. There is also a bit of romance thrown in.

Angelique and Saiunkoku Monogatari have spunky, fun loving girls that get thrust into the political spectrum of life. Angelic take on a more fanciful approach but both series have the same concept.

Both manga start in a similar way, with the poor heroine finding out about a high paying job at the palace where she has to be the emperor's temporary consort/bride. While Ookami-heika no Hanayome is focused on romance Saiunkoku Monogatari puts its emphasis on politics but still maintains a dose of romance.
