Sakura Endou is a twenty-six-year-old shoujo mangaka who doesn't have time for a boyfriend. However, when her friend Misono takes her to a group blind date, Sakura meets a plastic surgeon named Iku with potential. That is, until he looks deep into her eyes, moves in for a kiss, and describes all of the plastic surgery options she should look into! Though irritated at his rudeness and arrogance, Sakura continues to date Iku and the two grow closer in time. Together, the two will face their pasts and embrace the present - each other.
Both are about a mangaka who starts dating someone as research for her work, and both deal with the problems that come when a relationship starts that way.
Haruna has never been feminine; she was the star pitcher of the softball team in middle school and didn't focus on relationship, but now that she's in high school she has a new goal: to have a shoujo manga-style relationship. While Haruna tries to be attractive and get a boyfriend, she has no idea how to accomplish her goal; and thus, she recruits the reluctant Yoh as her coach. Yoh is very attractive and dislikes women and the problems they cause, but is impressed by Haruna's determination and agrees upon one condition: she promises not to fall in love with him. Thus begins the crazy relationships of Haruna, Yoh and their friends as they all struggle to find themselves and their true loves.
Both series deal with the difficulties of a relationship and the jealousies of past lovers. Also, shoujo manga plays a role in both series: In High School Debut one character is obsessed with them, and in Spicy Pink the main character is a mangaka.
