amateurasu amateurasu says...

Both are about a kind girl hanging out with a harem of bishounen (pretty boys) and helping them fight their personal demons (psychological, not supernatural).  Ouran is the more comedic of the two, but both are quite funny at times, while touching and even sad at others.

elmodoodle elmodoodle says...

If you're enjoying Ouran, then you're bound to love Fruits Basket, too! Some aspects of it are similiar to Ouran, but there is definately individuality between the two mangas. The added "mystery" factor to Fruits Basket makes it an intruiging read, and you'll definately laugh out loud for half of it. You'll fall in love with the characters (all you Honey-senpai fans will definately appreciate this for Momiji Sohma's enchanting childish character!) It is definately worth a read, so I would seriously recommend it!

wolfangel87 wolfangel87 says...

Both Fruits Basket and Ouran are about a reverse harem, making the girl the center of attention in a group full of guys. The series both also deal with morality issues that are expressed throughout the show with a great deal of humor thrown into the mix.

americanotaku12 americanotaku12 says...

If you loved Fruits Basket, you will also love Ouran High School Host Club. I won't reveal too much but it's basically areverse harem in a super rich school where this smart girl who looks like a boy, Haruhi Fujioka, manages to have to pay back these rich kids by pretending to be a boy in their host club. It's funny with gorgeous boys who each fit into a specific category that a girl would find attractive in a man. Hope you enjoy it as much as I have!

SugarCookies95 SugarCookies95 says...

Yeah I totally agree with this recommendation. Both series are quite similar in many different ways.

takeabeat takeabeat says...

There's something about the both of them that just makes them go hand in hand. Maybe it's the harem or the slice of life aspect. I'm not quite sure, but they really are worth the watch if you like either one of them.

Pickletom10 Pickletom10 says...

These mangas both are filled with fun, laughter, adventure, and romance. The main characters, Tohru and Haruhi, have so much in common. They both hang out around boys, have a sad backstory, and very VERY cute.

bridgetwidgett bridgetwidgett says...

They both have a central female protragonist that has mostly male friends, however, she does not obsess over them.

honeybear8 honeybear8 says...

There's the same dynamic between the main character and her friends. There are two love interests in Fruits Basket that there isn't in Ooran High School Host Club though.

Cgg1310 Cgg1310 says...

The sweet and gentle female lead, reverse harem, comedy, and romance.

Teen-like sweet romance.

I have never seen two series that could be so much alike, both in themes and characters.  Ouran High School Host Club is a dead on likeness of Special A.  A group of special students are brought together in a comedic array of fun filled adventures in a high school setting.  The female lead is both determined and a great role model for anyone in each of these series.

10sparkey10 10sparkey10 says...

They are both very similar and are both based in high school. All the charectars are similar and both are romance comedys.

I like Ouran High School Host Club and Special A because they are both based on romance and comedy but I recommend reading/watching O.H.S.H.C!

lindapearl lindapearl says...

The plot and characters are very similar. Both mangas envolve around a group of students in a rich school and the main female characters from a lower class. Special A and Ouran High School both have comedy and a little bit of romance in it. Both mangas are worth reading.

They are both are both about romance and are also very funny. Although Special A is more on about romance they are still both great.

kayoky093 kayoky093 says...

They have specific similarities: it's about a club and its activities, it is a cute love story of a boy and a girl from that club, the other members are developed as well, the story is a slice of life

well for starters its about a girl that is mistaken for a guy (or in hana kimi its on purpose) and both have rip snorting good laughs (sorry i just had to say that )

yelizaveritas yelizaveritas says...

'Host Club' fans would like 'Hana-Kimi' because these two manga have a lot in common. Though their plots are a kind of different, the main characters are girls, pretending to be boys. And they get trough lots of funny - and sometimes not - adventures.

liltootsiepop liltootsiepop says...

Both of these long-running romantic comedies explore the same themes in different ways; both of the female protagonists have to dress as males and trick classmates in order to achieve a goal.  They also explore homosexuality and cross-dressing to some extent.

Hana-Kimi is slightly more serious and to-the-point but still has elements of comedy.  The romantic elements are done in quite the same way and the art style of both series are of very similar tastes.

CMSensei CMSensei says...

Both Ouran and Hana-kimi have a main heroin who ends up having to dress up as a guy for a good reason. And both ends up having to hide the fact that they are girls.

Both have there funny moments and sweet times.

thejadegecko thejadegecko says...

Both stories deal with the main female character being surrounded by males and having to keep the secret that they are really females dressed up as males - from others. In Hana-Kimi, the main female Ashiya choses to dress up as a male to follow and be with her idol, Sano in his all male school. But in Ouran High School Host Club, the main female Haruhi is forced to dress up as a male to work in their club in order to pay back her debt. The stories themselves are different and unique, but share the same issues with trying to make sure people don't mind out the main female character is really a girl, and dealing with the troubles of falling in love. If you liked one, you will like the other.

Rosevecheya Rosevecheya says...

I feel as if these are good if you liked the other one (recommendation here goes both ways, I really want my friends to read Hana Kimi) because they have a similar central feature in:

The main female characters are believed to be a boy. While they present why in different ways, Haruhi being completely not on purpose, Ashiya's reason being for love, the difference is enough to keep it interesting but to belong to a niche of content.

They're both really funny series, with sweet, sad, serious, and just plain wonderful moments with fantastic characters. They also both touch lightly on homosexuality, which is always a plus in a manga.

The main female characters are poor but they use that as a means of determination in Ouran High School Host Club and Maid-sama!  They both have to work undercover while trying to keep it a secret from everyone else.  Surrounded by a crazy cast of characters though that is a little hard to accomplish.

kvait712 kvait712 says...

These two manga have a gril who just wants to be left alone to their studies but of course that doesn't happen. Misaki has a "perverted outerspace alien" stalking her while Haurni has 6 "rich bastards" stalking her. They are similar because they both have a rich guy(guys) who knows their deepest secrets and in the end become very reliable. Both Misaki and Haruni come form poor families and are top of the class while their boys come from rich families. Usui in maid sama is like all of the hosts combined in ouran but mostly Tamaki. Their names are also similar Takumi (maid sama) and Tamaki (ouran).

StaffOfOne StaffOfOne says...

What can I say? Both are situated around high schools. Both are Romantic and Comedies. The guys are based off of fairytale princes and are meant to be the female character's literal prince.

angelwolf123 angelwolf123 says...

They are both popular romantic comedies, big names in the shoujo world. If you like one, it's difficult to come up with a reason why you wouldn't like the other. Both of the heroines are level headed, down to eath hardworking individuals.

Beauty Pop

Beauty Pop

Kiri is a gifted young hairstylist who takes great pleasure in anonymously using her talents to add a ‘little magic' to an ordinary girl's life. On the flipside, a group of three boys called the Scissors Project have an entirely different mindset: they give grand makeovers to a select group of handpicked girls who are beautiful to begin with. Kiri is quite content with staying out of the public eye, though with the Scissors Project's leader Narumi refusing to stand aside and give up his makeover throne, it seems that she won't be able to stay out of the spotlight for long. With challenges being thrown at her whenever there's a chance, Kiri finds that she cannot resist responding to the world of hairstyling.

If you liked either Beauty Pop or Ouran High School Host Club, you will definitely enjoy the other :) The cast present many similarities. I constantly found myself comparing Tamaki and Kyouya from Ouran with Narumi and Ochiai from Beauty Pop respectively. The same goes for the leading female protagonists. The plots and setting, while not identical, do hold some similarities as well. Ouran is definitely the sillier of the two, though Beauty Pop also makes you laugh. If you find yourself loving either of these manga, please check out the other!

Shanalogic Shanalogic says...

Kiri and Haruhi's personalities are very similar, they are both blunt, frank, and are in similar positions. Haruhi is unwillingly put in a harem sorta thing with the host club thats for guys, while Kiri is unwillingly put in a hairstyling club cuz she has talent for that. A lot of the main male characters fall in love w/ both of them over time. Ochiai (megane from BP) and Kyouya (megane from OHSHC) are both misers and underhanded and have glasses. Kei(BP) and Hunny(OHSHC) are both sorta short, love food/snacks/cake, are very cute and bubbly. I loved both these seires anyways.

These two mangas are amazingly similar yet different enough too still be fresh and interesting, the feel and the comedy are near identical and i strongly recommend reading one if you liked the other, most likely you've already read OHSHC or seen the anime, if you loved Ouran, you'll most likely love My Heavenly Hockey Club as well!

streetspirit streetspirit says...

the similarities are uncanny. there’s a club that the female protagonist joins and there chaos ensues. it’s sort of got that harem feel to it too, like ohshc, but they’re definitely leaning towards a certain character as end game. there’s a smart boy with glasses in both, twins in both, and well if you like one you should really like the other.

in my heavenly hockey club the mc is more outgoing? she’s more abrasive then haruhi but she’s not annoying. i personally like them both.

The Wallflower

The Wallflower

Four gorgeous guys, one fabulous mansion and one challenge - turn the landlady's niece into a perfect lady and live rent free; fail and their rent will triple! Surely this task will be no problem for Ranmaru Mori, Kyouhei Takano, Takenaga Oda and Yuki Tohyama, who are lauded as the princes of their high school and have girls dropping at their feet daily... right? The boys' dream of rent-free living comes crashing down when they meet Sunako Nakahara, the girl they must transform. Sunako has devoted her life to solitude, preferring the company of anatomy mannequins, horror movies and the darkened seclusion of her bedroom to the presence of the ‘dazzling creatures' that cause her to have violent nosebleeds. Flushing her out into the light might prove to be more than the boys can handle!

Ouran high School Host Club and Wallflower both involve a group of very good looking guys trying to turn a girl that doesn't quite fit in with the society around her into the perfect woman.  The girls characters are both independently strong in their own right which takes a hilarious turn in the series when they try and stand up for themselves.

HollowNobody HollowNobody says...

Ouran High School Host Club and The Wallflower are both romantic comedies involving a female main character who is surrounded by beautiful boys.

A major theme in both manga is the idea of the transformation of the heroine. In Ouran this transformation is simply disguising the female lead as a boy. However, in The Wallflower the transformation involves a complete personality change from a socially inept recluse to a perfect lady.

Both stories are full of humorous scenes and dramatic happenings. If you enjoyed one you will most likely enjoy the other.
