Again, both mangas feature a more assertive female lead, different from typical romance mangas where women are often portrayed as weak.  Although the context of TCP (yakuza) is very different from KwM (high school), both have a lot to offer in terms of humour, butt kicking, and general girl power.

Itazura na Kiss

Itazura na Kiss

For some reason I picture Maid-sama! and Itazura na Kiss together.  The interplay of the two main characters seems similar in a way and the series focus on their relationship.

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You

Sawako Kuronuma is just like any other high school girl who wants to make friends and be useful. The only problem is she bears a worrying resemblance to Sadako from 'The Ring!' Because of her reputation, people are not only terrified of her, but small dogs even bark in fear at her presence; in fact, the only person in school who will talk to her is the lively class hottie, Kazehaya. As the pair spends more time together, Kazehaya slowly begins to bring Sawako out of her shell and soon their feelings for each other develop further. Though with her crippling insecurities, lack of social skills, and a series of cruel rumors and misunderstandings, it seems that Sawako's dream of a normal life won’t be quite so easy to obtain.

Kimi ni Todoke and Maid-sama! are similar to me because of the relationships between the characters.  The relationships that develop in the school settings and the support system that the main female protagonist is given from the ‘hero’ of the series.

The female characters in Skip Beat! and Maid-sama! are hard working girls that are a little down on their luck.  They are extremely determined and will do whatever they have to do to succeed and obtain their goal.  Each involves a little bit of romance and some comedy thrown in.

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu

Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu

Yuuto Ayase is not interested in girls - if his two housemates are anything to go by, girls are loud, brazen slobs that are best left alone. All too soon, Yuuto discovers that, despite her flawless appearance, Haruka is clumsy, naive, and a closet otaku... and he just might be falling for her.

The girls have a secret they do not want anyone else to know in Nogizaka Haruka no Himitsu and Maid-sama!  Of course the heroes in the story find out and have to try and help the girls keep their secrets.
