Yes, they are both martial arts mangas, but that aside, the two do have other similarities. Weak protaganist, strong arch enemies encouraging their growth, and even stronger masters leading them, and let's not forget the special morals of our leading men setting them apart. The protaganists even sound alike at times. If you like any of these ideas and want to see them reproduced in  completely different settings, then definitely try both of these mangas/manwahs.

Wright Wright says...

Kenichi is more based on traditional martial arts (while still being ridiculously over the top) while the breaker deals with superhuman ki abilities. They both have protagonists that train under insanely strong masters which progress them to become much more powerful. The action is good and entertaining in both, and they also like to include comedy and ecchi aspects.

TheDarkEli TheDarkEli says...

Both The Breaker and History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi follow the main protagonist and his path to becoming stronger, so that he can better protect those dear to him. The illustration in both series is excellent with the story flowing in a very similar way in both series

Chances are if you liked one, you will like the other.

Both of these are great series! Great fight scenes, great character development and great plot lines.

QueenOfHearts14 QueenOfHearts14 says...

Both involve a boy who wants to get stronger, and does get stronger as time goes on. Both are really great manga. Although Hunter X Hunter is Fantasy, while History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi is more of a Martial Arts manga. You will love them both!

Crave more over-the-top martial arts action? Like ecchi fanservice? Change 123 is also for you. HiFuMi will remind you of HiFuMi, crazy martial arts skills, insane fathers and all.

JAhU JAhU says...

History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi and Change 123 have similar plot elements. Both begin with a weak boy befrending (and falling in love with) a bespectacled girl who kicks ass at martial arts. At this point those series do resemble each other quite a bit, but they take two different turns afterwards. In Change 123 the boy stays weak, but there is a significant ammount of romance. On the other hand in History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi the boy gradually becomes stronger and starts to kick ass himself, but the romance isn't really progressing. If you liked one of those series (at least partially), you might want to check the other one as well. Just keep in mind that Change 123 contains quite a bit of ecchi (despite that the story is still there).

Reasons you might like Full Contact...

These two manga are very similar, and not just because they are about martial arts. They have a very similar feel to them. Both Otawa and Kenichi in the pursuit of getting stronger, end up in dojo's that are more than they expected, and they both have super strong grandfathers running them. They both have a love interest in the granddaughter, whose also a strong fighter, and both of them have to go through intense, and strange training, in order to get stronger. Although Strongest Disciple is a bit more comedic, and seems to cover a wider variety of martial arts, if you liked one, you should try the other.

Berserk81 Berserk81 says...

If you liked Full Contact or History's Strongest Disciple Kenichi, you'd like the other because they both are about martial arts.  They both also chronicle the quest of the main character to become stronger with a "monster" martial artist as the head of the dojo.  They each also find a love interest in the daughter/grandaughter of the Dojo head, which causes the Dojo head to make them become strong.
