Both are an intriguing story of girl-love with the hardships of life, while still managing to produce a wealthy amount of humour and intimacy between the characters.
Hanjuku Joshi, while shorter, and Girl Friends capture the humour of misunderstandings as the two girls of each manga fight for their love of one another. Neither are without their drama and raise similar issues teen girls face on a daily basis with relationships and their sexuality.
In short, no shoujo-ai lover should pass up on either.
Both series are about highschoolers coming to terms with their sexual orientation and how to be in a relationship with each other. Girl Friends is more drawn out and relies on rather tiresome misunderstandings to stall the romance while Hanjuki Joshi goes straight for the romance. And sex...
Still, both are pretty similar in art and tone, and they treat the subject matter in a mostly respectful manner, so fans of either would do well to check out the other.
