Amane has a unique power: if she knows someone's true name, she can control his or her spirit. Because of her unusual stoic attitude and suboptimal social skills, she is seen as creepy by her peers and has a hard time making friends. The only "person" she really talks to is actually her guardian in disguise: Hyoue, a dog-demon, who feeds off of humans' life energy. Amane "feeds" him by kissing him in public, which doesn't with help her public image. Amane and Hyoue must keep their powers a secret while fighting the evil spirits they encounter.
Amane and Sei have really similar personalities of being kind and gentle but possessing great inner strength and determination. Both are the daughters of powerful families and they must fulfill their duty that was passed down to them. Both have a guardian protecting them. There are similar themes of facing one's duty herself vs relying on one's friends.
The storyline is similar with a girl at an academy being protected by an honourable knight who's actually a crossdressing girl. Duels take place between the knight and her classmates who have their own reasons for wanting to win her title. The challenge to duel can not be refused. In both manga, there are subtle hints of romantic feelings for the princess and her knight.
