In both manga the heroine gets transported to another world (a country similar to ancient China in FY and Heian Japan in Haruka) and is given the duty of saving the country, but first she has to gather the warriors that will protect her.
Shibuya Yuuri was a typical fifteen-year-old boy until one day, when trying to stop a classmate from being bullied, he is flushed down a toilet! As he opens his eyes, Yuuri finds himself in a strange land. However, having mistaken it for a medieval theme park, he then gets the shock of his life when he is told that not only has he been transported to another world, but he is also their new king: the maoh. Adjusting to Yuuri's new country isn't as easy as it would seem, especially as he manages to accidentally propose to the previous maoh's son on his first night in the castle! Now, the idealistic Yuuri must learn his role as maoh and prove his worth, as well as trying cope with his easily-irritated new fiance.
Both are stories where the main protagonist travels from our world to an alternative one. The alternative worlds have a historical feel to both. Fushigi Yugi is based in fuedal China and Kyo Kara Maoh has a more medieval Europe feel. Also, both main characters have seemingly ordinary until they get transferred to the alternate world where they find themselves the center of attention. Both are harem style mangas, however the romance in Kyo Kara Maoh is minimal.
Both of these have a feisty heroine who doesn't wait for the men around her to solve problems, even though she just might be developing feelings for one of them. There's only one volume of Legend of Chun Hyang, but it reminds me of early volumes of Fushigi Yugi.
With a noticeable tan and bleached hair, Momo Adachi is a high school student who is frequently misunderstood by her classmates. She's accused of being a playgirl and is the subject of many rumors, most of which originate from her ‘best friend' Sae who is jealous of Momo due to them having a crush on the same boy. Momo's life only gets worse when Kairi Okayasu, who she once saved from drowning, decides to make her his own. Kairi coming into Momo's life only encourages Sae to spread more rumors about Momo and Kairi while going after Toji herself, creating quite a complicated situation for everyone involved.
It seems funny how best friends can turn out to be just so detrimental to a relationship! Some friends are out for revenge or just out to get you for jealousy reasons. This seems to be the case in both Peach Girl and Fushigi Yugi. Unfortunately, the main characters do not know how to deal with these impeding forces at work; will they be able to overcome their problems and focus on the love they have for each other?
A thousand years ago, The Dark Kingdom, led by Queen Beryl, attacked the Moon Kingdom. Utterly ravaged, Serenity, the Queen of the Moon, sent the souls of her daughter Princess Serenity, the members of her court, her lover and her guardians to Earth to be reborn. One thousand years later, the Dark Kingdom returns and begins to steal energy to wake its own dark Queen Metallia. Sensing that evil forces are nearby, Luna, a guardian of the princess, finds the bumbling and lazy Tsukino Usagi and awakens the soldier within her known as Sailor Moon. While they battle evil and search for the other sailor senshi, Sailor Moon must learn how to be brave, gain strength and search for the Moon Princess!
Both Sailor Moon and Fushigi Yugi have the same kind of elemental/spiritual power associated with each of them. There seems to be a deeper meaning behind the series as well as an association with higher beings. The main heroines in the series are very strong willed and fight for what they believe in, although both heroines also have a whiny side to their character.
