My-Hime

My-Hime

Tate Yuuichi has just transferred to Fuka Academy and is thrilled at the prospect of living in a normal co-ed environment. Little did he know that he enrolled in a school where all-out battles between female students are nothing out of the ordinary! On his first day Tate unwittingly stumbles into the middle of a fight between Mai and Natsuki – two of the ‘HIMEs’, a group of specially selected and powerful girls recruited to fight monsters known as Orphans. While the HIMEs themselves are strong, they can only unlock their true power when they partner up with their ‘Key’. Unluckily for Tate he finds that he is not only the Key for Mai but also Natsuki! Now Tate is entering a world of monsters, battles and even rival HIME groups, but that’s only the start of his troubles…

There are strong ties with human relationships and how the characters act around each other in Fruits Basket and My-Hime. The characters have to relive the hardships of their pasts while dealing with the hard realizations of the future.

If you liked Fruits Basket or Happy Cafe, you'd like the other because they both have similar characters. Both female leads are hardworking, pure, and a little slow (Specifically when romance is involved). They both have lost an important family member who watches over them from heaven. Everyone is cheered up by their bright smiles. Both manga are reverse harem and have many interesting characters with distinctive personalities. I enjoyed reading both manga immensely and feel that if you like either one you should try reading the other one too if you get the chance!

Mars

Mars

Kiro Aso is an astounding artist who spends her days cooped at home or in art club room, avoiding all contact with others – especially boys. Rei Kashino is a popular motorcycle enthusiast who seems to have it all: looks, personality, and an endless supply of hot babes throwing themselves at him. When the two cross paths one day by chance, no one could have suspected how close these polar opposites would grow to be, or just how many obstacles their love would have to overcome...

Mars and Fruits Basket are two of the most quintessential shoujo manga around, and should be checked out by both passionate shoujo fans, and anyone curious about what the demographic is all about.

Furthermore, the dynamic between the main couples in each (I'm using Kyo-Tohru as the main couple in Fruits Basket) is similar. The girl is innocent and well-behaved, while the guy is prone to outbursts of rage, and is haunted by a dark, mysterious past.

Olympus

Olympus

Ganymede was once the revered prince of Troy. But when the fickle god Apollo whisked him away to a place filled with flowers and beauty, the man finds himself trapped in eternity, unable to escape. What does Apollo want with Ganymede? And what will happen when Apollo meets Poseidon, Hades, and even Zeus himself?

The plots of Olimpos and Fruits Basket are nothing alike. Even comparisons between the characters would be strenuous at best. However, the way both manga tackle emotional turmoil and (rather angsty) philosophy seemed similar to me. If you liked the darker portions (and oodles of cute guys) in one of these manga, you might want to check out the other.
