Both mangas involve two princes of the underworld. Similarly, instead of being your typical, bloodthirsty demon, each have sympathy for humans and their fellow denizons, trying to build a world where both can live harmoniously.
Nurarihyon no Mago and Defense Devil both feature a young male protagonist who possesses an ability to transform, among other characteristics. Both mangas are lengthy, shounen, and are interesting due to their repective plot designs and character growth. Both stories boast a well designed world that is relevant to the main character and keeps you interested.
If it had to be said, even though both series have serious elements, defense devil felt more serious to me.
Sousuke is the class president, and is a stickler for the rules. Lately, he's had lots of problems. First of all, he's got to deal with his cute, but unruly, childhood friend Miroku. Secondly, they have a new transfer student, Enma, who claims to be from hell. Enma refuses to follow any rules but his own. Lastly, there's the giant, mysterious claw marks that have been appearing all over school buildings. With all this trouble going on, will Sousuke follow the rules or learn that sometimes there are more important things?

They both center around a demon with a high position in hell and both involve judging souls. If you liked one, you'll probably like the other.

idk, there is just something about the main characters which they can relate. Both deal with a theme of justice. Defense Devil isn't as intricate as Death Note, but it does add a little bit more action/fantasy as well as a better FUCKING ENDING then Death Note does... in my opinion of course
Rintaro Senkawa is a regular guy in his mid-20’s who got a little drunk one night and fell to his death. But that is just the beginning of Rintaro’s story, as he finds himself unexpectedly in Hell where he meets his guide, the painfully sexy devil Koyori. Can Rintaro take his situation seriously enough to repent for the sins of his former life or is he fated to be eternally tempted, teased, and tortured by scantily-clad devils with iron spiked clubs?

another pair that has many similarities while being very different at the same time...if you liked one, you very well might like the other one and not get bored (and both endings leave you wanting for mooore)
in fact, it wouldn't be much of a stretch to say they share very similar lore (not identical though)

if i had to give a reason why they are a match, i'd have to say that both mc's are supposed to be devilish in their ways, but instead end up being nicer than the official "good guys" and make you root for them instead
besides that there are other similarities, like the demon king/prince pairing up (and having romantic feelings in endgame) with the heroine who represents the church or whatever and are supposd to be saintly
The story of Jang Gwangnam, before leading Killberos as a guard tribe, unfolds in this street action prequel comic
