What happens when robots are able to come to life?  You get Chobits and Angelic Layer (well almost with Angelic Layer).  The robots in each of these fantastic series have connections with the people that ‘own’ them.  The interesting takes on how humans are able to react to emotional ties with something non-human is shown in a variety of contrasts and opinions in each series.  While Chobits is more suited for an adult type level Angelic Layer is still entertaining for people of all ages.

Both feature the burgeoning love between man and machine.

HOWEVER- Chobits is cute and ecchi, whereas Lychee is gory and perverse.

If you found yourself fascinated by Chii, that is, a non-human, super innocent girl who is capable of unconditional love, you ought to give Fairial Garden a try. Not only does it feature such character, but it's also way more cute and ecchi free.

Black Butler

Black Butler

In Victorian England it is commonplace for the rich and wealthy to have a staff, led by a head butler, to run their households; the Phantomhive Estate is no different. The young and demanding Count Ciel Phantomhive, child owner of a toy company, lives in the grand countryside manor. Sebastian is his head butler, and the epitome of perfection; he effortlessly and gracefully completes his day-to day chores and fixes the countless mistakes of the other employees. However, whilst on the outside all seems prim and proper, a more sinister secret lies just beneath the surface. Sebastian is in fact a demon bound by a contract with the young count; he will loyally serve and fight for him in return for his soul.

Both manga focus on a young guy who lives in a time when realistic human-like androids are common household appliances, and stumbles onto such an adroid which was apprarently thrown away. In each case the guy takes the free android and begins using it, but these discarded androids give indications of being something far more than the standard model.
