What happens when robots are able to come to life?  You get Chobits and Angelic Layer (well almost with Angelic Layer).  The robots in each of these fantastic series have connections with the people that ‘own’ them.  The interesting takes on how humans are able to react to emotional ties with something non-human is shown in a variety of contrasts and opinions in each series.  While Chobits is more suited for an adult type level Angelic Layer is still entertaining for people of all ages.

Angelic Layer and Chobits will show the reader that robots have feeling and deserve their own rights. Both of the main character like their robots a lot and care for them. Even through Chobits is for older teens both manga will question the reader about whether or not robots should be treated like a living thing. If you like one you should definitely try the other.

It's a bit alike: two different worlds collide. Since the drawing style is related to Hino's, too, and you probably like Comedy and Romance as genre, you'll like Chobits and MeruPuri for sure.

Elfen Lied

Elfen Lied

In the near future, some girls are born mutated. Known as Diclonius, this new species is believed to have been chosen by God to wipe out mankind. Unlike regular humans, Diclonius have two horns on their head and ‘vectors' - invisible ‘hands.' Contained within a research facility unknown to the world, the Diclonius are experimented upon mercilessly; many die or develop a hate for mankind. One such creature, Lucy, is said to be the first of the Diclonius. She escapes from the facility, but while fleeing she takes a bullet to the head and is seemingly killed. However, it seems Lucy isn't quite dead yet; she's instead developed an alternate personality called Nyuu. She's washed up on a shore where two people, Kouta and Yuka, find her and bring her home, unaware that such a monster still lurks within Nyuu.

The main heroine characters, Chii in Chobits and ‘Nyuu' or Lucy from Elfen Lied, are very similar to each other and act the same way when they first appear. I thought that the story lines were very similar to each other too, except Elfen Lied has a great deal of gore in it whereas Chobits focuses more on the ‘cute' aspect of the characters.

Midori Days

Seiji's new ‘right-hand girl' is Midori, who has loved Seiji from afar for three years; but unfortunately for her, Seiji wouldn't be caught dead dating his own hand and simply dismisses her attempts to profess her love. Now Seiji must struggle to maintain his fearsome reputation and keep Midori a secret, while she continues to hope that maybe one day her and Seiji can be a real couple.

The unique style of how the characters meet in Chobits and Midori Days is similar as is the strange love interest between the main characters. They both have a similar plot line dealing with some ecchi, although the relationship as a whole remains relatively innocent.

Reasons you might like Romeo x Juliet...

There is a forbidden love radiating through both of these anime series. Romeo X Juliet is along the line of a more historical sense between two warring families while Chobits presents a more technological dilemma between a robot with feelings and a human.
