One afternoon on her way home from school, Haru saves a cat from getting run over by a truck and promptly gets the shock of her life when it stands on its hind legs to thank her. That night, she is greeted by a parade of felines who inform Haru that her earlier heroics saved the prince of the Cat Kingdom. Haru suddenly finds herself inundated with gifts of mice and catnip as means of thanks, culminating in the announcement that she will be taken to their kingdom to marry the prince. With no desire to marry Prince Lune, Haru turns to The Baron and Muta from the Cat Bureau for help, but unable to stop them, Haru is swept away by a horde of cats. Can Haru prevent this marriage of inconvenience and return home before she becomes a cat herself?
Yue Chang is a young girl who is conducting a research report on stray cats for her school assignment along with her friend Ri Hui. Despite her grandmother’s warning that it’s best not to mess with wild cats, Yue Chang continues to catch the felines with a net and shave their stomach fur so she can keep track of her research. Then, one day as Yue Chang chases another “subject” through a pipe, the pair finds themselves in a strange world inhabited by cat-people, where they are promptly arrested and put on trial! Luckily, before receiving their punishment the duo is rescued by a friendly cat spirit named Zhi Liu, but can Yue Chang understand her wrongdoings and escape back to her own world?
Both of these are short stories that focus on normal, everyday characters visiting a world of cats. Though the protagonists visit for different reasons, if you like the fantastical feline nature of one, ou'll likely enjoy the other.
