Two collections of either short stories (AX), or one-page gags (Palepoli) that challenge the norms of what sort of stuff manga gets made about, and how it is presented. Very unconventional, and with widely varying quality.
In modern Japan a new type of teenager has emerged: "ko-gals", iconic and hip Japanese high school girls, who are knowledgeable about fashion and obsessed with gossip and everything cool. But even the most socially-savvy of teenagers have troubles sometimes, and ko-gals are no exception. From going on paid dates to befriending extraterrestrial exchange students, the life of the modern Japanese school girl is anything but dull!
Short Cuts and AX are bizarre. Each is a collection of short stories (in Short Cut's case, only a page long), that would never be found in any conventional manga. Many rely too much on their shock value to be entertaining, and there's a pretty big range of quality, but both are worth at least a look if you're into non-mainstream offerings.
