Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer

Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer

Yuuhi Amamiya is a loner whose mistrust of people was instilled in him at a young age by his abusive grandfather. So when an annoying talking lizard tells the university student that he is one of twelve knights chosen to stop the gigantic "biscuit hammer" before it smashes the Earth to smithereens, Yuuhi has no inclination to rescue such an unkind world. Despite his apathy, the boy is targeted by a golem while going about his day-to-day life, and ends up teaming up with the other knights anyway. One of his new companions is Samidare Asahina, the "princess" and leader of the knights, who secretly is only trying to protect the Earth so she can destroy it herself! Entranced, Yuuhi swears eternal loyalty to this cheerful devil that promises to crush the world he despises.

Both Hoshi no Samidare and Ashita Dorobou feature everyday life of the male lead taking a turn for the weird. In both cases this involves an extraordinary girl who has plans to change the world and a huge object floating above earth. If you liked one of those two series the other one should prove interesting too.

P.S. This may sound like the plot of a generic series, but those two are far from being generic.

Both series feature a plot/series of events that seem fated to destroy the world. The  male lead falls in love with the female lead with satisfying results.

Kono Kanojo wa Fiction desu.

Kono Kanojo wa Fiction desu.

A naive boy who's fallen in love with an older girl who everyone considers a genius writer. He's so in love in fact, that he has forgotten for the last 2 months about his secret hobby. For the past 10 years he has been writing the "character profile" of a single girl. Her birth date, personality, hobbies, conversations, etc.... is all recorded in a large pile of notebooks. All this time this fictional girl has been his friend and lover, but now that he is in love with a real girl he decided to throw them all away...

Kono Kanojo wa Fiction desu and Ashita Dorobou are very similar series. In both of them an "ideal" girlfriend (one based on male leads imagination, though in Ashita Dorobou she also had a living model) appears out of nowhere (more like comes into existence). The girl is however more to handle than the male lead would ever imagine, since she fires laser beams from her eyes when she is angry and she is quite possessive (if only all yandere were this adorable). Also, both series feature a love triangle. If you liked one of those two series you just have to read the other one too.

P.S. Those series are not as generic as their descriptions may sound.

Honeymoon Salad

Honeymoon Salad

His ex-workers keep calling for help; his memory of his first love is traumatic to say the least, he hates his father so much that he’ll never go back home, a stranger blames him for pushing her down the stairs… no wonder being pissed is a daily routine for Natsukawa Minori. Then enters not one, but two women in his life that will make him too busy to be pissed.

Having both a love triangle going on and reuniting with an (crazy) ex-girlfriend after many years, those two series are somewhat similar, though I prefer Ashita Dorobou over Honeymoon Salad.

However her love for her fiancé is so strong that she is permitted to return to earth as a ghost to see him. But she is sent back 8 years in time, to when she and her fiancé first met. In both manga a guy is in a love triangle with two instances of the same girl (in Kirara one is older and the other is the same age as him and in Ashita Dorobou one is younger while the other is the same age as the guy).

Uwagaki

Uwagaki

It's fairly obvious to Terui Chiaki that her classmate Ajikawa Yoshio has a crush on her. He is completely not boyfriend material in her eyes and, even if he was, Chiaki already has a boyfriend. Their mysterious teacher Mr. Yamada sees this relationship between the two students and offers an experiment. He is able to make copies of people and objects and does so with Chiaki, creating a copy of her, except the copy has no knowledge of her boyfriend. Yoshio will hit on the Chiaki copy, who is named Koaki, and he'll try to make her fall in love with him. After a specified amount of time, the copy and original will be combined back together and which ever love is stronger between the current boyfriend and Yoshio will overwrite all other emotions. So this love experiment begins and both Chiaki and Koaki, being the same person, thinks Yoshio has no chance in hell but with each passing day, some feelings begin to bubble.

Those two series have two things in common, really good art and multiple instances of one girl. If you read one and want to read something (more or less) similar, then the other one should be the right choice.

Arisa²

Arisa²

As a child, Morisaki Shinichiro made a promise to a girl when she was about to move away. On his way to school, he meets a girl who trips over a rock and lands right on him, passed out. He brings her to the school's nurse's office. In class, a new girl comes running in shouting Shinichiro's name. She looks awfully familiar to the girl Shinichiro brought in earlier. The girl he saved in the morning is named Sawatari Arisa, the loud one is named Sawatari Alyssa. While their names are identical in pronunciation, they have no apparent relation. Shinichiro looks at Arisa and thinks she's the girl from his past as she's very bashful and shy. However, Alyssa wears the cat-ears that he remembers and she also remembers him. When he goes home, he finds out that his uncle, who he lives with, has taken the two girls into his house.

Both series feature a love triangle with (what appears to be) multiple instances of the same girl. Ashita Dorobou is considerably better than Arisa², but if you're looking for this particular theme you might want give both a try.

Watanabe

Watanabe

Watanabe, an alien student from 20,000 light-years away, comes to homestay with the Tokino family to gather material for his thesis on Earthling behaviour. He follows around the various family members asking mostly funny but sometimes profound questions about their work, their loves, their polluted air... When he's not being sent on errands or punched in the face, at least.

Nejimakiboshi to Aoi Sora

Nejimakiboshi to Aoi Sora

This is the tale of a boy whose mother was killed in a meteor strike on their island home 6 months ago – something everyone knows was the crashing of an alien ship but no one will confirm – who one day quite literally has a girl drop out of the sky on him. She at first takes him hostage from people hunting her but it eventually comes out that she’s from outer space and if there’s one thing that this boy’s mother taught him, it is to NOT leave a damsel in distress…

Akatokisei Residence

Akatokisei Residence

On one side, we have a guy living a boring and meaningless life meets Touko, a pretty girl, and it turns his life around. They get married, but three months later she tells him she is an alien from a far away planet, and that she must return to her home planet in a few days. Will he let their marriage end so easily? On the other side we have Honda Haruno, a girl "sent" by her superiors to gather information about humanity. However on her first day of school she meets this boy "Isuzu", who has extensive information about UFOs, invaders from other space & related topics... Haruna not only is surprised to see that her cover has been blown out right from the start, but also she must know how this Isuzu fellow knew about her.
