Touch

Identical twins Tatsuya and Kazuya may look the same, but it's the younger Kacchan that everyone is interested in. As an excellent baseball player who is popular with all the girls and friends with all the guys, it's no wonder their childhood friend Minami prefers him over the slobby and less social Tacchan. In life, however, the path to true love and success is never an easy one -- a lesson the two boys will learn through a mix of sporting events, love triangles, typical school worries and a number of other painful and challenging situations...

Those two shounen sports stories follow the same pattern. There are 2 brothers: older, talented and respected by everyone and younger, lazy and hidden in his brothers shadow. Due to unexpected development (though practically identical in both mangas) the younger brother have to start showing his hidden talent. Pressured with achievements and reputation of his brother, he have to carve a path for himself.

Both mangas have realistic (to a certain point) approach on the sports theme. While there are some actions that may seem a bit over the top, at least there isn't any type of "Ultimate finishing moves" (like Prince of Tennis or Eyeshield 21 have )

These two sports mangas have a similar early plot that drives the overall mood for the rest of the chapters. Although area no kishi seems to have a bit more action and touch showcase a bit more challenges, if the overall color and mood of the manga is what drives you to one, (and you tend to like sports mangas in general), then you should try checking out the other.

Cross Game

When Koh was eleven years old, he lived a quiet and peaceful life, delivering sporting goods for his family's store and batting frequently at the Tsukishima Batting Center. Though Koh had no interest in baseball, he started the play the sport anyways after a series of events, much to the delight of his best friend, the beautiful Wakaba Tsukishima. However, soon life dealt Koh a tragic turn, changing him forever. Now, years later, Koh attends Seishuu Academy and is soon pulled back into the world of baseball. Alongside Wakaba's talented sister, Aoba; old friend and fighter Nakanishi; and plenty of new teammates and companions, Koh will once more pick up the pitcher's mitt and see if he has what it takes to be a champion.

Those two shounen sports stories are very similar. In both tiles main character isn't interested in the sport at the beginning. It all changes when tragedy strikes, and a very dear person to him dies. From that moment he starts to change himself, in order to become an oustanding player.

Apart from the main characters those titles also have many similar situations. For example in both mangas there are 2 clubs for the same sport in the same school. At some point they clash against each other, to determine who should represent the school. Also both titles have realistic approach to the sport theme.

Eyeshield 21

Eyeshield 21

Ever since Sena was little, everyone has treated him as an errand boy. His childhood friend, Mamori, even has to protect him from bullies all the time, although she's a girl. Fortunately, in order to evade his tormentors, Sena has developed incredibly fast legs; in fact, Sena is so fast that he is noticed by Himura, the quarterback of a failing football team, who promptly tricks him into joining. However, in order to keep other teams from scouting him, and to keep Mamori from finding out that he's in such a dangerous sport, Sena wears an eyeshield and goes by the name of "Eyeshield 21". For someone like Sena, making it in the tough world of football is a challenge like no other, but also the once-in-a-lifetime chance to become someone others respect!

Area no Kishi and Eyeshield 21 are similar in some aspects of story. Area no kishi follows on Football whereas Eyeshiel21 focuses on American Football. Both series main character have a major talent sealed/hidden in them. With certain events taking place to force them to show the world their talent and help their team to achieve Victory.

Both are School Club based sports manga with facing many teams from country and the world. The main character is life of team which dramatically changes the future of team. Though eyeshield has some over the top stuff like light speed run. Ull enjoy both series equally

Area no Kishi and Kuroko no Basket are similar in some aspects of story. Area no kishi follows the highschool Football whereas Kuroko no Basket focuses on Highschool basketball. Both series main character have a major talent sealed/hidden in them. With certain events and people helping them to show their true power. A tragedy in area no kishi and a senior's help in Kuroko.

Both manga's main character are quite simple with Kuroko no Basket main char supposedly invisible.Nonetheless both have massive talent in them, also both have a childhood girl who they like , or who likes them.

an enjoyable read for any sports lover
