Synopsis:

Kawai Maria is always very blunt when she speaks, so on the day she transfers to Touzuka High School from St. Katria, a prestigious girls' school, she plainly states she was expelled due to violence and is almost immediately isolated from the rest of her class. However, two students, Kanda Yuusuke and Meguro Shin, take an interest in her; Yuusuke tries to help Maria change her way of speaking so she can make friends easier, while Shin tries to help her subtly in his own way. With Yuusuke and Shin's help, will the other students ever be able to accept Maria or will her straightforward personality continue to push others away?

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You

Kimi ni Todoke: From Me to You main image
  • Vol: 10+; Ch: 39+
  • 2006 - ?

Sawako Kuronuma is just like any other high school girl who wants to make friends and be useful. The only problem is she bears a worrying resemblance to Sadako from 'The Ring!' Because of her reputation, people are not only terrified of her, but small dogs even bark in fear at her presence; in fact, the only person in school who will talk to her is the lively class hottie, Kazehara. As the pair spends more time together, Kazehara slowly begins to bring Sawako out of her shell and soon their feelings for each other develop further. Though with her crippling insecurities, lack of social skills, and a series of cruel rumors and misunderstandings, it seems that Sawako's dream of a normal life won’t be quite so easy to obtain.

I highly recommend these two for readers who have liked either Kimi ni Todoke or Akuma to Love Song.

Both KnT and AtLS feature female protagonists that have the same problems/difficulty with communicating their feelings, causing them to be misunderstood and to become misfits in class.  Although the personalities of the two are different (Sawako is gentle and shy whilst Maria is blunt and honest), they both experience the same outcast feeling caused by their classmates.

If you liked either, you should give the other a go.  You won't be disappointed.
